What to wear to a christening?

What does one wear to a christening? I haven't been to one as an adult, do you wear the same as to a wedding?

I'm a short 16/18, so midi or maxi dresses are out, what can I wear that's flattering and comfortable. I also don't like sleeves to complicate things further! I usually only ever wear black, but I know that's not appropriate.

Please help!

Almost as smart as to a wedding, but without the hats / fascinators.

So men do tend to wear a suit and women tend to wear a nice dress, yes. It isn't generally the done thing to flash masses of flesh either.

If it is a service within a regular Church service, you'll probably be much more dressed up than the folk that ordinarily go to the Church service week in, week out.

Though, with all the COVID restrictions, it might be a small, specially arranged service just for the Christening party ? In which case, ask them - as obviously, from the Church's pov, you can wear what you like. Smile

I'd go for something like a tea dress and a jacket or cardi. The last one I went to, a lot of the young uns were very dressed up, but I wouldn't say that's necessary.

Depends, immediate family smartish - men in suit and tie, women in dresses (knee length to 3/4 ish) or smart trousers and top but not as full on smart as weddings necessarily. In my experience (I arrange them) many people recycle wedding outfits only worn once before.

From the church's perspective they don't care btw but bare midriffs and shorts worthy of being worn by Daisy Duke would raise eyebrows! I've had parents in jeans and parents in ultra smart

I've always dressed smartly for a Christening, as a previous poster said, just a step down from a wedding. The last Christening I went to, I was a Godmother - the other God mother was wearing ripped jeans, trainers and a boob tube top, I shit you not. My Dad still isn't over it, he mentions it regularly such was his disbelief.

Even though you don’t like sleeves, think about taking a cardigan or jacket, as churches can be chilly, and unlikely to have heating on.

As you usually wear black so have probably got a selection of garments, what about teaming up black with white or cream, which are both good combinations. Or wear black but add some colour with jewellery, handbag etc.

Haha don't worry I won't be baring my midriff or wearing anything short! Grin I'd quite like to wear something a bit more colourful than black for a change.

It's in a very different part of the country to wear I live, and they are known for dressing up. I don't want to be dowdy in comparison!

I'll be buying a coat as well, as although I hate sleeves I do layer up, but I get so hot!

I should've said I'm mid thirties, so at the awkward stage of some shops being too old and some too young.

Is this okay (I know I said sleeveless, but they are thin material)

When is the christening?
That dress looks nice but summery and the days are getting chillier now.

Well I don't know yet! It's already had to be cancelled a few times, so it could be cancelled again! (I think it will!).

I don't really feel the cold, never wear tights etc. So that won't be a problem.
