I know there are drops out there, but has anyone tried them and if so, do they work?

Optrex Bloodshot Eye Drops really do work, but they’re not really suitable for regular/sustained use.

Wearing colours that really suit you will make your the whites of your eyes look brighter too.

Giving up alcohol and drastically reducing my consumption of fizzy drinks, tea and coffee has helped mine.

Thanks both of you

Navy blue eyeliner and mascara are meant to help distract from red eyes - might be a bit 80s though!

I think there are foods you can eat to boost whiteness. I would be interested to know too. A tan helps.

I think ageing is an element in this. Beyond a certain age, your eyes are not ever going to look that wonderful and shiny ever again, no matter what healthy living rules you follow or what you give up. Age is the passing of the years, and we none of us look as we did at 20, or 30, or 40 or 60, once we have passed those landmark birthdays.

Mine don't see as well as they did in my 20s either... but I can still see! Small mercies!

Improve liver health, hydration and sleep.

Mine have always been very white, I have a shitty diet, so I’m lucky. A friend uses the optrex drops and they definitely do work.

allaglow · 13/09/2020 20:34

Optrex Dazzling Eye Drops, from supermarket or Boots.
I don't use them every day, but if I'm applying full make-up, I wouldn't dream of not using them.
Keep them in my make-up bag, and write date of opening on the box, as they can then only be kept for 1 month.

Great tips here, thanks!

Depends what the issue is. Mine get very red and bloodshot in allergy season, so make sure it's not something you are allergic to (as antihistamine drops may be better).
Lots of the whitening drops can temporarily reduce blood flow to the sclera (white surface) but can make the blood flow increase in the longterm and cause more redness so recommend only for use on a special night out not for constant use.

I find prolonged computer use or driving makes mine less clear. I am envious of other people’s clear bright eyes

I have seriously dry eyes - diagnosed at the eye hospital. They tried blocking tear ducts which didn't work as the problem is insufficient oils. Eventually I heard about starflower oil. I buy the capsules. Expensive, and they took a while to work. However, they worked for me. My eyes are no longer red (so bad, I was once taken for someone who'd been having a sobbing session...)
