Botox

Hey all, I am early 40's and have a free consultation for Botox coming up. I'm excited but really nervous so just seeing if anyone else has had Botox and what they honestly thought?

It's like a taboo still where I live but I'm sore more people have had it than they let on?...

Thanks x

I treated myself to Botox for my 40th. I have it done every 4 months now. It’s subtle and just helps me feel better about myself.

dozydaisy · 11/09/2020 23:55

I had botox 3 weeks ago for the first time. Im 52. Wish i had tried it earlier, it was great and had a few people comment that i look really well. No didn’t tell anyone either !

Stroller15 · 11/09/2020 23:57

I'm mid-30s and have only my 11s botoxed - it makes such a difference to my overall look. I really love it.

GlamGiraffe · 12/09/2020 00:43

I have my 11s done occasionally and sometimes the lines at he sise of my eyes. And also i lift my eyebrows slightly. Had it done a few times over the years. I only have a small amount. Just enough to soften things. I always make sure I tell them I still want to be able to move which is the trick.its often referred to as baby botox. If you make sure you are still able to maintain expressions it just helps reduce the creases but doesn't make you look frozen. It makes you look very well and fresh rather than massively younger. In general white a few people have it done like they would have their teeth cleaned, its just general maintenance these days.
Personally I think botox foreheads always look wrong so would rather keep some lines there. It's the best thing in the world for sweating under your arms, amazing!

Elllllle · 12/09/2020 01:33

I think S&B normalises botox a bit. Comments like it's just general maintenance I find a bit odd. I've had it done once and results were a mixed bag. It hurt, it was very expensive and there were small lumps/bruising for a while where I had it done. After about 2 months it looked okay - completely got rid of my 11s. It lasted a long time too - around 9 months before there was a hint of line. But my skin texture was still a bit crap, still had rosacea, people didnt notice I looked refreshed etc etc. It's not a magic bullet fix to skin issues.

My eyelid also swelled up badly a few weeks after I had it done and apparently it was a blocked duct/drainage issue which I've never had before ... gp thinks unrelated to botox but I dont want to risk it again just in case (I also dont want to scare you, just trying to give a balanced view!!).

Delatron · 12/09/2020 08:13

I agree it’s no magic bullet and doesn’t necessarily make you look younger. It doesn’t improve skin texture for example.

However, I’m trying it again next month as I’m very frowny. I’ve had mixed results in the past, despite going to good doctors. First time I had slight brow droop which made me look tired. Then it looked ok after a month.
Next lot was good but I think I went for the top up too quickly (after 4 months) as I looked a bit ‘surprised’ for a couple of months. I also feel it can create wrinkles elsewhere where you didn’t have them. Across the nose ‘bunny lines’ can be a giveaway of Botox. I also scrunched my eyes up as I couldn’t frown so created wrinkles under my eyebrows that weren’t there.

So I’ve had over a year off. Now 44 and trying again as can’t bear looking at my frown lines. Will ask for baby Botox and hope it looks good this time!! I’ll also wait a good 6-9 months between top ups to avoid over doing it.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 12/09/2020 14:28

I get my 11s done although the last time I've noticed that I've overcompensated in my gurning and developed creases at the sides of my eyes ( I guess the skin has to go somewhere!) so I'll speak to the Doc when I go back and she'll tweak.
I'm 50 and I'd love to have more confidence in myself to not have it done, but I look so much more relaxed and fresh after Botox and it's such an easy fix. I can afford it and the confidence it gives me has a nice knock on effect.

I agree that it does seem normalised on S&B but then you're going to get a higher proportion of people interested in beauty replying, so...

Thecobwebsarewinning · 12/09/2020 14:33

I’m in my 50s and have been having it for about 4 years. I haven’t been able to have it topped up for 10 months now and I miss it. I look tired all the time.

Suzi888 · 12/09/2020 14:36

I haven’t, but has crossed my mind for a fresher look. Interested when people say they choose not to tell anyone though. You don’t need to because it’s so obvious, isn’t it? Is it something to have done only if you don’t mind everyone knowing?

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 12/09/2020 14:37

What @Elllllle said.
There have been various posts here over the years from people who reacted badly to the world's most powerful neurotoxin being injected into their face.

Thecobwebsarewinning · 12/09/2020 14:45

Only bad or overdone botox is obvious. I have listened while people (including my mum) said all the usual things about how they can ‘always tell’ when someone uses botox and piped up at the end to say ‘Can you tell about me?’ Generally speaking they think I’m kidding and take some convincing that I genuinely do have regular botox. And before anyone suggests it, it’s not because I still look rough or wrinkly but because I look natural and my face isn’t frozen.

wishywashywoowoo70 · 12/09/2020 15:35

I've had it a couple of times and it's great.
3 areas and only needed it twice in a year

Doesn't hurt at all and you'll see the difference quite soon. Take before pictures to see for yourself.

Take a pic doing a huge smile and a exaggerated frown. Then do the same about a week or do after.

cheezy · 12/09/2020 15:41

When I had Botox I did overcompensate in other areas and created more wrinkles. I’d squint if I couldn’t frown. So not sure if I’d have it again. And that was a very light dose.

Delatron · 12/09/2020 16:37

That happened to me @cheezy. Then you’re left with more wrinkles than you started with!

I also have a friend who has Botox and although she has no crow’s feet, she has more lines directly under the eye area now which I think are more ageing.

pantsville · 12/09/2020 20:04

I think some people mistake Botox for fillers or plastic surgery, and the look they have in mind of someone who’s “overdone it” is most likely someone with a whole cocktail of work done. I think a lot of people don’t know what it is or how it works. For instance, I’ve heard people say someone with a new pair of giant lips has “had too much Botox”

I get Botox and it really is the only thing I have done. I don’t dye my hair, wear make up or even nail polish or anything like that - I definitely look natural anyway, and I suppose it helps I only have it in one area. I really am happy with it and I love that my relaxed facial expression doesn’t look annoyed, tense, or miserable anymore. I’d rather get a treatment like this where I can wake up looking refreshed every day and not have to do anything else really to look good.

I’d suggest you go to someone reputable at a proper clinic rather than someone doing it from their dining room, so you have that reassurance they know what they’re doing and they’ll be there if anything does go wrong.
