Best Mascara for Leaky Sensitive Eyes

Sparkesy · 09/09/2020 22:30

Can you recommend a sensitive mascara that is really waterproof?
I have very leaky eyes and need to find a decent, sensitive, waterproof option.
No.7 lengthening and the 360 one is making it worse, Cover girl too.
Please give me some suggestions, any budget to save me from these itchy runny panda eyes.

Have you tried a tubing mascara? My eyes also water terribly and I stopped wearing mascara temporarily because it wasn't worth it - they looked smudged after 5 mins, regardless of make/cost etc. Tubing ones can't smudge, they coat the lashes and the coating sort of rolls off with warm water - in little lumps, it can't smear. Kevin Aucoin does one, but I think the Eyeko Sports one is better. No.7 Stay Perfect is one too which is less expensive - I wasn't mad on it but I can't remember why. L'Oreal also do one but it gave a very thick, dramatic appearance, but I'm very boring with make up and prefer a more subtle effect.

The Clinique tubing mascara is excellent. I suffer terribly from dry eye syndrome which means that I get bouts of sudden uncontrollable stinging eyes and eye watering. This stuff never budges.

I recommend Clinique Lash Power as well. No annoying flaking or getting into eyes.
Deathraystare · 10/09/2020 16:11

I have this problem. When waiting for a bus I look like I am crying. Particularly annoying when wearing a mask as I am forever trying to wipe my face!

I use Wilco waterproof - the Princess mascara. I also have the Rimmel one in the purple tube (waterproof) Scandalise Wow wings mascara. There are also some Maybelline ones and a Revlon one I can wear. Some I can't.

Another recommendation for tubing mascara. I wear contacts and my eyes stream sometimes. I also have super oily skin. Tubing mascara is a life-changer! I use the L’Oréal one (half red, half white)

Sparkesy · 10/09/2020 21:53

These are great suggestions- I've never tried a tubing mascara, I'm going to give it a go

I also recommend Clinique tubing mascara. Also the Boots No 7 Stay Perfect mascara. Also the Boots one doesn’t dry out in the bottle as quickly.

SherryPalmer · 10/09/2020 21:59

Another vote for tubing mascara. I like the Blinc one.

itwilldropoff · 10/09/2020 22:09

Clinique lash power, does not budge!

goose1964 · 10/09/2020 22:16

Tear, I've always had dry eyes and wondered why they'd suddenly stung and become watery. I never though the two were connected.

My optician explained it all to me and it's something to do with the fat to water ratio in your tears. I hope I've got this right but I think when you have dry eye syndrome you make plenty of the watery part but not enough of the fatty part, so the tears don't create a protective film on your eyes. So then they sting, and your body pumps out more tears, but they're rubbish because they're just water, so your eyes sting some more, so your body pumps out more watery tears and on and on it goes.
Ginfordinner · 10/09/2020 22:32

Would an option be having your lashes dyed so you wouldn't need to wear mascara?

WhereAreWeNow · 11/09/2020 09:21

I've got sensitive eyes and I swear by Clinique Naturally Glossy mascara. It's easy to get off too which is a bonus.

How do you get tubing mascaras off?

Soak cotton wool or a face cloth in warm water, press it to your eyes, and wipe. Makeup remover doesn't work, only hot water takes it off.
Wheytaminute · 11/09/2020 10:01

Another vote for tubing mascara

I have only used the no.7 one so can't comment on the others.

It's v easy to remove - if you wash your face with water. Looks like lots of little spider legs floating around in the basin :)

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 11/09/2020 10:08

What are tubing mascaras made of? Synthetic polymers or microplastics which you are washing out to sea?

Have you tried dyeing your lashes?

tearinyourhand · 11/09/2020 10:10

Aren't all mascaras made of synthetic polymers? The different types are just different formulations

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 11/09/2020 10:14

I think they probably are, I just don't know if tubing mascaras are little microplastic threads or something, or just a more clumpy version of normal mascara 'liquid'...

Deathraystare · 11/09/2020 10:19

Speaking of tubing mascaras - how do you know they are - I mean when you buy them? I reckon I have had some in the past without knowing it. When I try to remove them they go bitty and don't remove with cleanse rwell. Is this why?

ChequerBoard · 11/09/2020 12:05

Another vote for tubing mascara. Personal favourites are DHC Perfect Pro mascara and also Glossier Lash Slick as both have very slim wands that work well for me.

I've used the original Blinc tubing mascara many times and like it but turn the wand a bit too big and have also used the No.7 version but find that flakes annoyingly within a few hours.

If it goes bitty and you struggle to get off with cleanser then it’s probably a tubing mascara, the only real way to get them off is a cotton pad and warm water or a flannel and warm water.
ChequerBoard · 11/09/2020 13:22

Easiest way to remove a tubing mascara is to use warm water and your finger tips. I do this at the sink, before starting to remove any other makeup.

Get your fingertips damp with warm water and dab across your lashes. Wait a few seconds, and repeat. Tap at your lashes with your wet fingertips until the little tubes start to loosen and come away. Rinse them away - job done.

Elllllle · 11/09/2020 13:22

I don't get along with tubing mascaras- I have tried most mentioned and they irritate my eyes. And Ive found when they do irritate, my eyes water and I rub them and then I have black tubes everywhere.

Most waterproof mascara also irritates my eyes AND the removers required irritate around my eyes.

I do love Dior mascaras... pretty smudgeproof as long as I dont use eyecream beforehand. And no irritation which is a.miracle

KindergardenCentre · 11/09/2020 14:42

I've never found one that doesn't melt. The tubing ones I've tried slide off and i look like there's been a spider massacre on my face.
