Cleanse tone and moisturise

I'm 35 with combination skin and I think it's about time I started a proper daily cleanse, tone moisturise routine. Can anyone recommend any specific brands? I've been using a semi cheap set from boots (about £20 for all three) and it doesn't seem to have done much!! So am willing to pay a little more but not mega bucks ideally. Recommendations much appreciated

Basic Cleanse tone and moisturise doesn't do much for me. I use cerave hydrating cleanser then at night I follow with a prescription strength tretinoin cream, then follow that up with an moisturiser if needed. At the moment I'm using the Ordinary NMF. In the am I use a vitamin c serum 15%, a little moisturiser if needed and loads of sunscreen spf 50 +.

I do use the odd glycolic acid toner or peel, the redermic r eye cream from la roche posey and some other serums but my main staples are the tretinoin and the vitamin c with sunscreen. I have combination skin also.

I really wanted to understand that but I’m afraid you lost me at ‘basic’ 😂

Can I have an idiot’s guide please!? :)

WhatcI mean is that the cleanse tone and moisturize routines sold at beauty counters feel really nice, luxurious and pampering but there isn't much evidence they really improve the skin. For that you need proven actives like retin a and vitamin c and when you're using actives the rest of your skincare should be non irritating. So basic gentle cleanser and moisturiser from the cerave brand alongside your actives is better in my opinion.

What are your skin concerns?

I do like the toning element of the skincare routine because it makes my skin feel cleaner and allegedly tightens pores. I just never know which brands are the best and whether spending more really does make a difference or not.

I'd recommend some kind of hot cloth cleanser that you take off with a flannel. Loads of people do them. The superdrug one is cheap and good.

If you don't wear make up, even eye make up I can say that Nivea do a dual cleanser/toner which is quite nice but not for removing make up especially eye make up!

I tend to use it in the mornings. I tend to double cleanse with a creamy cleanser before hand then a miscellar one as I don't find them too cleansing myself.

I only use a toner at night. It is a retinol one (Pixi).

I use Liz Earle's hot cloth cleaner, and do it twice. Every other day I use the gentle exfoliator from the same range as the second cleanse. I don't use the cloths that comes with it though I use flannels I find they make my skin feel like it's had a better scrub!

Also interested in toning but have no clue really, and have bought my first bottle of retinol to try!

Moisturiser wise I use Nivea Soft. It's lovely and after years of spending lots of moisturisers I was really pleased to find this. It's cheap as chips, non greasy and smells really nice.
