In the Additions catalogue - is this woman anorexic?

here

and here

Tghe other models are thin, but healthy looking. I found this one a bit shocking. She has that toothy smile too in other pictures, once sported by Karen Carpenter..and her favourate catalogue pose seems to be one of almost falling over - must have missed breakfast

her legs do look painfully thin behind those jeans but there are some people who say are naturally very thin. I'd be a bit dubious about this one though

Chipstick · 07/10/2007 13:28

No I wouldn't say so at all - think she looks lovely in the first picture.

Tutter · 07/10/2007 13:29

she looks very thin in the second picture

but you can't deduce from that that she's anorexic

themoon66 · 07/10/2007 13:31

She has a look of Donna Aire about her. That first pic is taken at a funny angle I think.. she's sort of leanign forward so her head appears large and out of proportion IYSWIM.

AitchyBabesHugz2AllUHunnis · 07/10/2007 13:31

ouch. i think she looks terribly thin.

Twiglett · 07/10/2007 13:40

I think she looks emaciated and ill personally .. but don't know if she's anorexic as she may (though I doubt it) naturally be thin and really bad retouching particularly on the arms in 2nd shot

I do know that in my opinion she shouldn't be modelling as it puts forward a body style that is not representative of the standard healthy shape for a grown woman .. and the more these types of images are used the more the lollipop lady shape is applauded the more at risk the majority of our children are

lucykate · 07/10/2007 14:05

i think she looks very thin, it says the smallest size of those clothes is a uk 8, but the model looks smaller than an 8 to me

MaryAnnSingletomb · 07/10/2007 14:12

yes I was thinking Donna Air too themoon66 !

colditz · 07/10/2007 14:17

I know for a fact that many catalogues have to pin the models into the clothes, as they are too big.

Monkeytrousers · 07/10/2007 20:21

She is lovely, but painfully thin. And the clothes look terrible on her, especially the jeans!

i think she looks great

wouldn't say she as anorexic though, just thin. i have a friend who is naturally thinner than that and she has tp stay on the pill to stop herself losing weight.

SeaShells · 07/10/2007 20:42

Anorexia is an eating disorder not a clothes size, you can't look at pictures and judge whether or not someone has a severe eating disorder.
Yes she is extremely thin. I personally don't think it looks nice.
What I find annoying about this woman modelling, is the fact that the clothes she's modelling only sell from size 8 upwards, which is basically false advertising, when they show a size 4? representing a product falsely. Even a size 8 would have to be dramatically pinned into place!

Monkeytrousers · 09/10/2007 09:02

Erm, but extream thinnens is a symtom isn';t it? You can look at people and see that their |BMI is well below healthy limits - whether it is caused by anorexia, illness or natural thinness is to be discovered. But I agree with Twig and don't think this is a healthy image to have in a catalogue. She is beautiful (facially) but far far too skinny, worryingly so. The clothes look terrible on her. God knows what they looked like in RL, after the 3 pounds were put on on camera.

The first picture looks OK, but she looks awful in the second one.

I thought initially it was just the way she was posed that made her arms look so scrawny, but then I saw her legs are like sticks as well.

It's very sad that these incredibly thin women are used to sell clothes - as if she's wearing a size 8... yeah right...

Hulababy · 09/10/2007 13:04

Very thin.

No idea if she has an eating disorder though. Could be naturally thin, could have anorexia, could be somewhere in middle.
