Do these shoes work?

I usually wear this jumpsuit as per the photo attached. I'm hoping to dress it down for an event coming up and thought of espadrilles. My natural inclination is to buy a black pair but I think I'll get more use from a neutral pair over summer (not in UK) I can't get the rule that a colour cheapens black out of my head. Thoughts please?

I think the jumpsuit looks great with the shoes your wearing. I like the espadrilles you posted, but don't think they would go well with the jumpsuit. I think there's so much black and then to add a chunky white shoe like that would throw the balance of the outfit off.

Tbh I'm not sure an espadrille is the right shoe for that jumpsuit. I think the chunkyness of the shoe along with the thicker ankle ties will draw the eye down towards your ankles, and they will create a clash with the hem of the trousers. If you did want to do an espadrille I would maybe try a darker coloured one instead with a matching belt of bag to tie it all together. Perhaps blue or red. You could do the same with the cream as well, but it would be a more drastic look and not sure if it would work out as well.

I love your jumpsuit, and the shoes you are wearing with it. I would have to wear some wedge type sandals,as your shoes are not made for my feet. I would probably wear black, as not very adventuress with shoes colours. I like espadrilles, but only wear them with a summer dress ,or shorts.

I don't think an espadrille will dress it down. And not sure that it will work with the jumpsuit. A pair of suitable trainers would dress it down more than espadrilles.

The shoes you're wearing in the picture are really lovely with the jumpsuit.

It isn't that dressy in your picture - you could easily dress it up with jewellery, makeup and hair, and dressier shoes and bag.
So if you want to dress it down, maybe it's enough to wear minimal jewellery and just keep everything else (makeup, hair, nails, accessories) quite simple?

I really like the shoes your wearing with it. If you wanted to dress it down then trainers or sandals would be my preference but for going out definitely the black heels.

I’d go for black, low heel (or flat) sandals myself.

ElizabethMainwaring · 09/09/2020 03:49

That jumpsuit really is lovely! I love the pockets, you look great.
I agree that the espadrilles won't look quite right.

Downunderduchess · 09/09/2020 03:58

Yes, they would look good. Give the outfit a more casual look. Black on black is too predictable & imo boring.

I think the espadrilles are too summery for that jumpsuit. Would go with a dress. They won’t look right with the julpsuit.

Thanks all, you've confirmed what I thought. It's a weird event as it would usually be a v formal dinner in a swanky restaurant (husbands work, loads of v important people I've not met before) but this year it is being catered at someone's house. I've had a headache with what to wear at all, settled on the jumpsuit but think the heels in the pic are too much for a dinner at someone's house Confused

I also seem to have lost the shoes in the picture in a house move Sad

Flat tan or coral sandals, I think, would dress it down a bit for wearing at someone's house. Maybe:

Or trainers as the others have said.

And don't underestimate how a bigger handbag and a chunky or bright costume jewellery necklace can dress an outfit down too. I have a long brown bead necklace that really works for this.
