Orthotics - shoes - deep back???

Ginandtonic4all · 07/09/2020 07:32

Hello. My 16 year old daughter has to wear orthotics. The only shoes that have ever been deep enough to accommodate the orthotic and not slip off at the back are some trainers and kicker boots.

She is now at sixth form and has to wear business-ish clothes. All the other girls are wearing loafers or ballet style shoes. She does not want to wear kickers any more as they look childish.

Please any suggestions of where to go? We have tried Clark's / doc martens / the kicker shoes and they all slip.

She is a size 3 but wears a size 5 in order to fit her wide feet and the orthotic.

She's so miserable about her feet and shoes I will spend what it takes.

You have to wear orthotics with a flat fastening shoe or they can’t work properly. If the foot slips when you walk they are ineffective so loafers or ballet flats are unsuitable.

She’ll need a lace up or buckle up style that you can’t take off when it’s fastened. Anything she can remove without undoing will stop the insole working.

Brogues?

My DD has the same issue and is starting to revel against kickers.

Rebel not revel!

@Fluffycloudland77 thank you for that - it helps understanding the mechanics of it all.

Have tried brogue type shoes with laces and still too shallow. Will keep my eyes peeled.

Some shoes have insoles you can take out. If the shoes a tiny bit too shallow and your sure you can afford to risk it you can rip them out.

I use Vionic shoes, strive footwear & sometimes fitflop shoes - sorry racing out so no time to do the links. Not really glamorous but ok. Also carvela comfort.

ImAncient · 07/09/2020 11:15

Sorry should have added that some above have built in orthotics.

I have the same issue but with my DS. He’s now got some Clarks shoes but won’t wear his orthotics as makes his foot too high in the shoe. He used to wear Start Right and they were fine, so maybe some of their girls shoes are ok?

PineappleUpsideDownCake · 07/09/2020 19:58

You have to be able to take the insole out. i thought you could with clarks brogues?

I cant fit insole and orthotics.

Frankiegoes · 07/09/2020 19:59

He wore Startrite Rhino shoes, and I used to be able to lift out the inner sole of the shoe, rip off the bottom layer of it, and then put it back into the shoe.

Can anyone recommend men’s shoes that have good arch support, or those that can fit an orthotic?

Rainallnight · 07/09/2020 19:59

Are they really massive orthotics? I have some and they fit fine with brogues etc in my normal shoe size

PearlclutchersInc · 07/09/2020 20:00

www.widerfitshoes.co.uk/ Not cheap but they might offer some options.

If her feet are that wide in her orthoses tying your podiatry department for cusom made might be an option?

Passthecake30 · 07/09/2020 22:06

My daughter and I both have orthotics and wear brogues from Clarks
