Diluting ELDW

After not wearing any foundation during lockdown, I now don’t want to go back to Double wear as I think the cover is too heavy. Will likely move to double wear light- or just CC. Has anyone been able to thin out double wear to make it less heavy? Have and almost full bottle so don’t want to waste it.

Could you mix it with your moisturiser?
I.e put some moisturiser on back of your hand, add your DW and mix.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 07/09/2020 06:35

Of course you can.

Mix with a primer, or a moisturiser, but only before applying.

Thanks- will give it a try - attempts would far have just ended up making it streaky- think I need a creamier moisturiser

Yes, do it! I mixed mine with a CC cream and used it no problem. I recklessly added the CC cream directly into the ELDW bottle and gave it a good shake.

We won't tell. Smile

You can get a very light cover of it by applying while your moisturiser is freshly applied (so skin is slightly dewy) and use a stippling brush - I use the Real Techniques one and its cheap and readily available. Shake the DW bottle then take the lid off and swirl the brush across the top to pick up a tiny bit of product, then apply and blend well with the brush.

thanks! Will try now

Thanks- I gave it a try with the stippling brush- it kind of worked but I thinks it’s the ELDW- it just isn’t for me. Sits in my pores and makes me look a million years old. Anyone have a suggestion for a foundation that works on older skin that has been through the wars ( blotchy uneven tone with big pores)?

I mix it with moisturiser in my hands before I put it on with my fingers, it makes it much lighter consistency and doesn’t sit in my pores or wrinkles.

I basically put moisturiser on my hand then add a bit of DW and rub it together, then apply straight away with my fingers/hand.

@badasscafe1 I switched from ELDW to nars sheer glow. I just found DW to heavy/cakey and unflattering on my skin.

Sheer glow can still be quite full coverage but I mostly mix it with an illuminating cream or liquid highlighter to thin it down and add a bit of glow.

IT cosmetics cc cream is really lovely too for a lighter (but still pretty decent) coverage.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 07/09/2020 11:30

I use the back of my hand to mix it, like a palette.

One blob each, mix some, leave some so I can use the less diluted bit as a concealer.

I find it difficult to buy the right shade and am a big believer in mix your own.

Dior Forever Matte is a nice alternative, but a more out-there discovery I've made is that Clinique anti blemish solutions BB Cream (which is definitely not a cream) is amazing coverage, very lightweight and much more natural looking than DW. Worth getting a sample if you can. I've not 100% switched yet but I think I will. It looks nicer on the skin and it lasts pretty well with a setting spray.

You’re describing my skin! Bobbi Brown Skin Longwear Weightless works for me.

Thanks all- really really appreciate it. Was feeling quite positive about skin post lockdown and then putting ELDW in today made me feel bad about it again!!!! Is such a hard thing to buy......

@emsyj37 - just as an FYI- no samples do to covid but CLinique doing free 90 returns if I dont get on with it.... seems very fair- unlike this full bottle of ELDW that I am stuck with! will work my way through everyone's suggestions- many thanks!

Thats the one @badasscafe1 - I have no idea how I came to buy it but it really is the weirdest stuff. Its runny like water but covers like you wouldnt believe and doesn't look like heavy foundation.
