My greys are VERY stubborn and resistant to colour and even after I have my hair coloured in the salon, I can still see them. ☹️ Obviously not as white as they are before being done but I can definitely see a shade variation.

I've heard about pre pigging or pre softening, which is supposed to help the colour 'take' better on greys; has anyone tried this and was it successful? Would it be something I could do myself at home, the night before I get it coloured?

I'm starting to get a bit disillusioned with the end results and my hairdresser just suggests going lighter but I'd rather not have highlights at the moment - have had them a few times before, just trying to save my hair! 🙂 .

Just not ready to embrace the grey yet!

Pre softening is where you apply neat 20vol peroxide before your colour, pre pig is where you apply neat colour before your mixed colour. Another thing to try is to apply the colour to your roots then reapply 20mins later as the cuticle should have opened. A grey range colour should have the extra pigment built in. If you are going to do it a home I'd recommend someone else applying as otherwise you will get banding if you overlap

Do they both have the same result @loubeylou68smellsofreindeerpoo - ie help the colour to stick?

I've never coloured my hair at home but was considering the John Frieda Precision Foam - does that just go on like a shampoo, do you know?

And thanks for your help, btw! 🙂

I'm sorry but I'm not familiar with home brands but to start with I'd probably reapply after 20 mins , if you don't get good results that way try prepigging

And I probably wouldn't use one that you apply like a shampoo as you need to apply precisely at the roots for most of the development time or you will get banding

Thanks @loubeylou68smellsofreindeerpoo! 🙂
