Face Masks and Makeup

I haven't worn makeup in a looooong time, but I used to love wearing it. I'm currently on a weight loss journey and I'm looking forward to wearing makeup when the weather is colder, because then there's no sweat 😬.

So I've been thinking a lot about eye makeup when wearing a mask, because that's most likely a certainty this winter. So far, during summer, I've hated every second of wearing a mask and I rip it off as soon as I leave whatever shop I'm in and use it to wipe off the sweat.

In the autumn/winter however, I can picture some fancy looking eyes with a face mask and a chunky scarf. I could honestly picture myself wearing a mask willingly (😦) because I would have done my makeup to suit it.

Has anybody else been thinking ahead to things like this? It's okay if you say no, I know I'm often the odd one out when it comes to these things 😂

I don’t do my makeup in a special way to accommodate a mask no, but I think some do eg playing up the eyes.

Having said that, I think I actually wear less makeup if anything, as face coverings tend to rub my foundation/liquid lipstick off so cba to constantly touch up. They have also caused my skin to break out so I tend to wear face coverings for the bare minimum time. As soon as I’m out of the shop I’m wipping it off and disposing of it, I’m definitely not planning outfits around itGrin

I would probably forego a lot of the face covering stuff and maybe just use a primer/cc cream Grin in some ways I think it could actually save me time if I do it right. So far I haven't worn make up at all in face mask times, so I'm interested to see how it will affect my routine when it comes around

Please stop normalising masks. Wear them, but don't lionise them. They need to be gone as soon as possible.

I feel like the more I wear masks, the worse my skin gets. I currently have a chin breakout which has never happened to me before! So that’s something you might experience if you wear masks & makeup for longer periods - you might need new skincare

I wear heavy eye make up, always have done. And a good 3 layers of skin make up (concealer, foundation, powder). I did worry about how masks would leave lines or smudges but a good blast of hairspray over my face when done applying has really helped.

HarrisonFived · 05/09/2020 23:40

@indemMUND there's an urban decay spray that I used to use all the time to fix my makeup, I think it's called B6 something or other. I love the hairspray idea.

@hastingsmua1 I used to suffer from breakouts a lot when wearing make up until I started wearing clarins. I'm hoping that will still help when the mask comes into play

@Teal99 I'm going to have to wear a mask regardless of whether I stylise it or not. Honestly I don't see the point of sidestepping any idea of enjoying it while I have to wear it, I don't think that will end restrictions any faster. I'm sorry you're struggling so much with it though.

Masks are here for the foreseeable. There's nothing wrong in making the best of it and trying to look nice. Being miserable about it won't make them go away any quicker.

indemMUND · 05/09/2020 23:48

I have an Urban Decay spray, but I've only used it for concerts with flamethrowers in front row Grin hairspray does me day to day
