Bras HELP

Before children I usually wore a 32C bra. I am 5'9'', weigh 9 stone, and have small (not minuscule but definitely smaller than average) breasts. After breastfeeding I feel that the same size is too tight, so bought some 34Cs and 34Bs but they don't fit right either. Using the booborbust calculator I should be a 30DD. But although I can do a 30 inch strap up I find it extremely tight and uncomfortable. My underbust measurement is 29. What am I doing wrong? I literally no longer have any bras that I feel comfortable in, even sports bras! Is it some sort of hypersensitivity thing? Anyway, I haven't been wearing one very much this summer, but now I am back to work, need to wear a blouse or other smart-ish but light top, and definitely need a bra underneath. (After breastfeeding alas I have huge nipples.)

If 30 is too uncomfortable try a sister size in 32 back e.g. sister size of 30DD is 32D. Did the DD cup on the 30 back fit ok?

dementedpixie · 05/09/2020 12:38

What is your over bust measurement?

mdh2020 · 05/09/2020 12:41

Look at Bravissimo and phone them up for advice

I’ve switched from all underwired bras and it’s bliss! Will never go back to the torturous bras you see in all the shops now!
They all seem to be so heavily padded and underwired.

worldwideover · 05/09/2020 13:13

Thanks everybody maybe the underwriting thing is the main problem with work bras, although I do have some non-underwired bras that I seem to have become resistant to too! I think the DD cup on the 30DD bras were OK but I didn't buy it was too busy taking it off again because it was so uncomfortable. My overbust measurement is 34 pretty tight, 35 looser/ leaning.

I would say that the odd thing about my torso is that it's very flat but quite wide. So if my underbust is 29, it's almost all 2D, if that makes sense....? My breasts are a little bit widely spaced but not strongly so.

PS, a 32D bra is too big.

Too big in what way? Cup or back or both?

worldwideover · 05/09/2020 13:29

I don't really know. Definitely in the cup I would say. But it seemed too big in the back too....? Just a lot more fabric that is needed...! Having said that, the 32C bras that I normally wear (different bras) feel too tight by the end of the day. Though OK in the morning.

Could be style related too. Or maybe DD was too small on the 30 back and you needed 30E

DieSchottin93 · 05/09/2020 14:44

Doing the backwards band test on the bra will tell you if it's feeling tight from th band or the cups. If it passes the band test try going up a cup.

Fluffycloudland77 · 05/09/2020 15:13

30DD. My underbust is 29 but I size down to 28

Properly fitting bras are tight at first but that’s only cos you’re used to rubbish loose bras.

If the underwires in the wrong place their agony. I wear Freya 28d underwired, one of their styles I tried on was agony after 5 minutes. This ones very comfy for me but might be completely wrong for someone else.

If you go to bravissimo they’ll sort you out.

worldwideover · 05/09/2020 18:22

OK, thank you everybody! I'll try Bravissimo and maybe buy a good one and persevere. It may be that I've got too used to slobbing about at home. Tights fill me with horror too.

I'm the same size and build as you OP. I wear 30dd or 30e depending on the time of the month. Sounds like you're just not used to the feeling of a well fitting bra or maybe you're quite sensitive skinned? I'd recommend either trying out some different brands and styles to find something that works (M&S does a bra range called 'sumptuously soft' which comes in 30dd.That could be worth a go. I also like the Uniqlo 'light' non wired bras which come in a weird 30c/d/dd multi size. They're very loose for a 30 back.
