I want to wear make up but my skin sweats oil

Minutes after washing my face, my pores ooze. I've tried everything.

I really want to start wearing make-up (for me, nobody else).

I've tried porefressional, pore master, skin peels, everything. Porefressional was the best for me, I also used the setting powder and sprays.

Even so, after an hour I look like I've done a marathon.

So right now I just don't bother. Instead, my routine is to wash and moisture 5 times a day. (I also use the best moisturiser for my skin)

I'm early 30's and I'm unashamedly sad that the time for me to wear make-up and look pretty is never going to come.

I also agree with previous poster regarding over stripping is load of bollocks.

OTT oil production - skin needs an extremely good cleanse & you need to invest in specialist products to help keep on top of it.

Dermalogica is a great brand, I would get in touch with them via social media & ask for some advice, they are very active in Instagram & Twitter.

Jan Marini also another fab high end brand maybe worth contacting to see what they recommend.

I will also vouch for the retinol, it helps close pores & keep everything under control re sebum production

You need to stop washing as much and let your skin settle. Hopefully make the most of working from home if you can?

I have oily skin from early teens. I'm 41 years old and have had really low periods of mental health because of my skin.
Currently use salicylic serum and niacinamide + zinc serum. Also use acnecide gel when skin is blocked.
The positive side of oily skin is, I have very few wrinkles !!
Hope you find what works for you.

Blot rather than wash during the day. Use good old fashioned blotting papers or a dry flannel if at home. I think that over washing is not helping (though sounds like you are oily anyway).

Some wonderful suggestions. Thank you!

I'm sorry to say but I'm glad I'm not the only one like this.

I'm going to have a look at retinol. I did consider asking my gp about roaccutane. I'm aware of the side effects so I don't know if they would be willing to refer me. That said, it would improve my mental health more than anything!

I also love the idea of Korean and Japanese products.

That's my reading material sorted for tonight!

Sand and sky masque drags all the oil out of my skin so so well I would give it a try I’ve never used a masque like it.

Watching with interest. I have exactly the same problem. I’m 47. The only thing that has made much difference was Dianette in my 20s, oh, and pregnancy! It’s definitely hormonal, I have PCOS. In fact my skin is oily that i have developed seborrhoeic dermatitis as well, so it’s oily AND flaky. As well as itchy, red etc.

I also hate people saying that you shouldn’t wash so often as you will strip the skin. My skin is better when I can clean it 3 times a day instead of just morning and night. But I don’t have time for that now.

I must admit that I’ve stopped cleansing with harsh cleansers as I don’t think it did my skin barrier much good. When I followed a VERY strict diet for a week or two to repair my skin barrier, and exercised too, I did notice a difference in the quality of my skin. But man, that was so boring and made me miserable in the long term. I couldn’t keep it up.

On the plus side you'll wrinkle less than us dry-faces Grin

Whatdowehaveherethen · 06/09/2020 01:09

@CorianderLord I hear that a lot! I'm early 30's and until a couple of months ago I constantly got ID'd when buying cigarettes.

I've switched to vaping now but I do miss being mistaken for an oily teen😂

@CurlyhairedAssassin I was assessed for PCOS, luckily that was the case although I do have a moustache, chin hair, lower stomach hair, bum hair....hair everywhere.

I blame my Indian ancestors for that one.

Please be careful with roaccutane although it sounds as if you’re aware for the possible side effects. I know oily skin can really get you down, I’m 42 and have about 5 hormone/mask chin spots at the moment - on the plus side, no crows feet and minimal forehead wrinkles despite smoking for the best part of 20 years.

AnnaMagnani · 06/09/2020 08:30

It's a skincare issue - things like Paula's Choice BHA and a retinol will be your friend. Also Cerave as it has niacinamide. Oily skin can usually take everything you throw at it - mine did, plus it looked amazing then I got bored and gave up

Look on the positive side - with your oily skin you going to be much slower to get wrinkles Smile

However even Lisa Eldridge in her makeup for oily skin videos admits that it won't last all day and take blotting papers.
