What type of trousers for comfortable autumn winter WFH and life?

LimeLemonOrange · 03/09/2020 20:43

I'm going to be WFH for the foreseeable future. I love wearing my fleecy joggers but feel a bit too slobby looking if I go to the shop or wherever.

I'm 48 so I've reached the 'comfort is my priority' stage of life. I still want to look ok though, and not embarrass my teenagers. In general I could do with making more of an effort with my clothes.

What kind of trousers can I throw on everyday in autumn and winter and still be comfortable in? And not too cold (my house is freezing in winter).

I like the idea of having something comfortable, yet good looking enough to meet up with friends for autumn walks in.

Also I'm only 5 foot 2.

Me too OP. I bought some hush joggers at the beginning of lockdown and loved them, but they are looking distinctly shabby already so I'm not in a hurry to buy another pair.

LimeLemonOrange · 03/09/2020 21:04

Pickingdaisies let's hope we get some good suggestions soon!

I saw a woman on my road the other day who had some nice baggyish jeans. I was too shy to ask her where she got them from (silly of me probably). I can never find any looser style jeans that don't look ridiculous.

Jogger jeans are good. I got some from White Stuff a while ago. Stretchy but look like denim.

PopcornFiend · 03/09/2020 21:08

I’m obsessed with the hush harems - just ordered my third pair! Sooo comfy and wash really well, and I feel fine going to the shops/school run etc in them. I’ve been wfh since March and no plans yet to stop, so the harems have been a godsend.

Oly4 · 03/09/2020 21:08

The Boden cuffed jersey joggers are surprisingly smart looking for a trip to the shops or a walk.
They are not thick so no good for deepest winter but are the best I’ve found for crossing the loungewear-ships divide.
I agree about Hush joggers.. look really worn really quickly

Chewbecca · 03/09/2020 21:11

I’m wearing petite dungarees from sea salt most days. The bib makes them a little warmer!

Bluewavescrashing · 03/09/2020 21:14

Lucy and Yak dungas are so comfy with a cashmere jumper underneath.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 03/09/2020 21:22

What about cords? I have wide-leg cropped cords from Cos in every colour way, and they are so comfy and cosy. I wear knee-high socks underneath if it’s really cold.

I’m a bit taller than you - 5ft 6 - so maybe that won’t work.

I love Robell trousers - living in the Bella ankle grazers at the moment.

OllysArmy · 03/09/2020 21:28

The Landsend star fish straight leg trousers are brilliant. I have worn them for a few years as my indoor trousers and when travelling on planes etc.

sleepwhenidie · 03/09/2020 21:29

Lululemon pants (OnTheFly/Keep Moving or similar) are pricy but I promise they are the comfiest trousers and wash and wear brilliantly, really well cut and always look good for ages. Look out for ‘we made too much’ bargains.

Gillybobs · 03/09/2020 21:45

Baukjen do loads of thick ponte tapered trousers, they are a dream to wear and wash well/last years. I'm more than happy to pop out in them which is rare for me in lounge wear type clothes.

CeliaCanth · 03/09/2020 21:47

Robell trousers. They come in several styles, loads of colours and they do a fleece lined winter version too.

DianaT1969 · 03/09/2020 21:47

Khaki trousers in lyocell are in a few shops, such as H&M. Lyocell is really soft.

Staywithmemyblood · 03/09/2020 22:12

I have a few pairs of these. Soft jersey material, wide legged with a flat, elasticated waist. Can be dressed up or down. M&S, so come in short, regular and long lengths

pguppgdown · 04/09/2020 01:16

M&S coloured jeggings! Short, regular or long legs, high waist, thick waistband, stretchy, like a second skin, no muffin top, easy to wash and dry, warm enough for park walks, smart enough for a pub lunch, made of cotton and lycra, and for £15, good value and long-lasting. Easy to smarten up with boots, dress down with trainers, equally good with long shirts or jumpers or under dresses.

pickingdaisies · 04/09/2020 08:13

Jeggings won't stay in place on me, I'm always having to hoick them up. Any views on hush jeans? I'm tempted but their sizing is so weird I'd have to order a few pairs. Nice to have some suggestions, thanks everyone, I thought me and OP would have to talk amongst ourselves!

ShaunaTheSheep · 04/09/2020 08:21

Uniqlo jeggings are great. This thread has reminded me to get mine out, they’ve been packed away all summer.

grannycake · 04/09/2020 08:57

I love Hush jeans but the sizing is on the large side. I also rate Saint & Sofia for comfy but smart trousers and Baukjen Neath pants are great WFH trousers

LimeLemonOrange · 04/09/2020 11:21

Oh wow, loads of suggestions, I'm so excited to go and check them all out. That's today's googling fun sorted! Probably going to need a lottery win now to buy them all!

I like the idea of dungarees, I hadn't even considered those. I used to think I was too big boobed for dungas but I've lost a lot of weight recently (illness-related) and also that's great that they do petite ones.

I have loads of Hush clothes but their Harems looked awful on me, but Amy joggers are good and so are their chinos
I can’t get on with their jeans either

LimeLemonOrange · 04/09/2020 11:24

The Seasalt dungarees are sold out, I'm gutted as I LOVE them! I'll keep my eye on their site, maybe they'll get more in future.

OMG the Lucy and Yak dungas - gorgeous! My only worry is whether those ties are a bit fussy on a short person with larger boobs. I'm going to order some anyway.

I'm going through all the suggestions and want them ALL! So many great tips for comfy trousers, especially those with petite options. My joggers always drown me, not sure why I hadn't thought to google petitie joggers.

@LimeLemonOrange if you're worried about the dunga ties I've seen ones altered to use buttons instead. I have berry cords and cobalt lighter weight ones and love them
