My Revlon One Step arrived yesterday

As it was on Deal of the Day (with Amazon) I bought one, following all the rave reviews.

I know I may need a bit more practice, but first impressions were mixed. Its fine, but doesn’t do anything that a ‘normal’ hot air dryer doesn’t? And I needed the straighteners on my ends afterwards – and that’s always been my only gripe with the BaByliss Big Hair, which is the best appliance for smoothing but makes the ends a bit too curled under?

I just need an appliance that smooths, gives a bit of body and doesn’t make me look too bouffant. I’m beginning to think such thing hasn’t been invented yet …… ☹

How long is your hair? I’ve been very tempted with the Relvon one step for ages but haven’t committed yet. My hair is quite fine and it’s shoulder length. All the videos/reviews I’ve seen of the One Step usually show people with shorter hair, I think because of the oval larger barrel it works better on shorter hair for giving volume maybe?

Coffeepot72 · 03/09/2020 11:22

My hair is shoulder length. I will definitely try it again tomorrow, maybe with a little practice things will improve but I was expecting to be blown away!

I've had mine for over a year. I have thick frizzy hair and it's fried the ends of my hair.

Flymetothesun · 03/09/2020 14:29

I have straight, lank hair and it was great for giving volume but another one with fried ends. Definitely use a heat protector.
I've also had two BBH and now got an Airwrap.

Coffeepot72 · 03/09/2020 14:57

I used the Revlon at about 8am today and my hair now looks pretty awful - thankfully I'm working from home. I will definitely give it another try (any new appliance is worth 3 attempts!) but unless there's a marked improvement it will be on Ebay by the weekend ....... :(

I wasn't blown away by mine tbh. Maybe we need an air wrap!

openupmyeagereyes · 03/09/2020 21:17

Disappointed here too. Left my fine hair fluffy and as you can’t get into the roots I’ve got cows licks too.

I had a Charles Worthington hot air dryer brush thing when I was at uni (about 20 years ago) which was the most brilliant thing. I stupidly got rid of it during peak hair straightening and miss is dreadfully. I read these threads in the hope that one of the new things will be as good but it seems none are!

Coffeepot72 · 03/09/2020 21:34

By the end of the day my hair looked so poor that I had to tie it back, this is not a very good start!

I like mine. Maybe use some mousse first if you want volume. My hair is collar bone length.

Coffeepot72 · 04/09/2020 08:47

I've got three Teams calls today, so I need to look presentable, so it was back to the BaByliss Big Hair this morning, I will try the Revlon again tomorrow, and thank you for the tip about mousse @MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously

I was surprised at how loud it was. It just sounds like a hairdryer.

Coffeepot72 · 04/09/2020 09:01

I thought it sounded like a plane taking off ……. !!!

OP posts:
Yankathebear · 04/09/2020 09:49

It does!
I wanted something quiet that I could use when everyone is sleeping instead of going to work with wet hair. Should have read the reviews!

Coffeepot72 · 05/09/2020 14:35

Hang on a minute ..... I tried it again this morning and got far better results! I used the highest heat setting this time, and despite needing ear plugs my hair looks quite good - fairly smooth, not too curled under at the bottom (so no straighteners required). I will give it another go on Sunday/Monday but things are definitely looking up!

I have hair which is very long and use this, I love it! Makes it bouncy and shiny. Sometimes use the straighteners for a bit of extra shine but it's not needed. Love it

Coffeepot72 · 07/09/2020 09:59

Well I just used my Revlon for the third time and I'm now very impressed! It took a bit of practice, but I've just achieved one of my best ever home blow dries !!!

Interesting. What do you think you did differently?
Coffeepot72 · 07/09/2020 11:33

I now go straight onto the highest heat setting, rather than trying to style using the cooler settings. And I think I've got better at rotating the brush while its in my hair; I keep the brush at the roots for a few seconds for volume, then pull upwards and outwards while I'm moving the brush through my hair, and just giving it a slight curl-under at the ends.

And today my hair is nice and smooth with a touch of volume, but minus the bouffant look I sometimes got with my Babyliss Big Hair. So I didn't need the straighteners.

The best thing to do with all these appliances is to use them as directed but then put in hair rollers directly afterwards while the hair is still warm.Let the hair cool down on the rollers and in that time either do make up or get dressed , clean the bathroom, have breakfast ,whatever you like .The volume and curl tends to last so much longer.
