Anyone found any product or supplement that successfully thickens hair?

I’ve lost a lot of hair recently alongside a big drop in weight. I stupidly did the same last year too and whilst it grew back eventually it was certainly thinner for a time.

I’m taking biotin. Anything else anyone want to recommend ?

Not a permanent solution, but I got some VO5 volumising hair powder in Home Bargains and it's majorly improved my thin lank hair.

FizzyPink · 01/09/2020 22:03

Biotin made mine grow a lot. Even people I saw every day at work commented on how long my hair had got

For a temporary styling solution, living proof thickening cream is good.

I have been using regaine foam (for temporary hair loss) and I think it’s made a huge difference with the speed at which my hair grows. I had my hair coloured 5 weeks ago (brunette bleached blonde) and my brunette roots have already come through and need a touch up. Normally it would take 2 months to get to this strange. My scalp already looks less visible and roots less sparse too, you’d never know my hair started to fall out if you saw me now!

justanotherneighinparadise · 01/09/2020 22:21

Could you link to the foam @hastings? I’ve looked at those kind of products countless times but felt bamboozled by the choice.

Another poster just mentioned on another thread - sort I can't link from my phone - that they take turmeric and black pepper supplements which has worked wonders.

I’ve just googled and there’s a tumeric and black pepper supplement on amazon that has rave reviews. Not necessarily for hair growth but seemingly for everything else!

I've had hair loss after weight loss. Take a multi vitamin and eat 60g of protein a day. Lots of eggs, lean meats (bacon can be low cal and high protein) and lots of fish. Peanut based protein bars, small bits of cheese.
Count how much protein you're eating - you might be surprised by how little your getting.

IvyEf · 01/09/2020 22:56

Oh and good quality yogurt!

hastingsmua1 · 01/09/2020 22:57

It’s this but possibly cheaper elsewhere. It is a commitment (must apply daily for rest of your life!) but I thought it was worth it to help to restore my hair. It’s the only product on the market that’s actually effective for hair loss.

I started using this as although I have temporary hair loss (stress related), I went through two bouts in succession so my hair never managed to fully restore before the 2nd loss session began.

hastingsmua1 · 01/09/2020 22:58

Oops linked to the wrong one! It’s the foam I use

Whyisitsodifficult · 01/09/2020 22:59

Definitely the Biotin supplements have made a difference. Noticed when I combed my hair that there’s less on the brush.

semideponent · 01/09/2020 22:59

Eat pumpkin seeds. I have a handful daily and every hairdresser comments on the thickness and condition of my hair.

IvyEf · 01/09/2020 23:01

You could get 60g of protein by eating 150g Greek yogurt for breakfast, 'breakfast' for lunch 2x eggs and 2x bacon rashers, and for dinner 150g cod.

That totals 500 calories and is 61g protein.

Add fruit to the breakfast maybe a bit of granola/cereal, tomatoes to lunch and other salad or veg to dinner. Add fruit for snacks, or whatever you like.

Or you could have egg and tuna salad for lunch.

Chicken / steak for dinner.

I really count my protein. Hope it helps good luck x

Vitamin B12. I have been taking a large dose of Vitamin B Complex for about 6 months (helps reduce hormonal headaches). I noticed my hair felt thicker & then read that B12 helps thicken hair.

Fluffycloudland77 · 02/09/2020 07:54

I agree with more protein, it’s very easy these days to eat very little protein.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 02/09/2020 09:47

I use perfectil, the one with the extra hair supplements. Also a shampoo from Holland and Barrett which is caffeine based.
I'd also get iron levels checked just in case.

Jennygentle · 02/09/2020 09:52

Biotin is ace.
Eat really well, as well as you can afford, with plentiful quality protein. And keep well hydrated.
For a temporary fix, I find neutral henna makes my hair feel noticeably thicker after application.

NutriHair

justanotherneighinparadise · 02/09/2020 13:40

I’m eating low carb, moderate/high protein. So I think I’ve got the protein checked. I have too wbd iron as I had a transfusion a couple of years back that will give me enough iron surplus for life, so I know that’s fine. Hormonally I’m in peri so hormones are in flux although currently periods are regular.

I do fancy that turmeric supplement so I’m going to get that. I’ll keep on with the biotin. The Regaine foam just won’t worn with my day to day hair, I only wash every three days and have curly hair. The supplement is a possibility though.

Viviscal Professional. Takes 3 to start seeing results on you head but can see a difference in nails and eyelashes about a month in. It’s £££ though so I get it over from US, otherwise it’s £60/70 from hairdressers or Amazon.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 02/09/2020 13:45

Ah, it doesn’t get your thicker as in width but you’ll get a lot of new hair.

hastingsmua1 · 02/09/2020 19:09

With Regaine - you apply the foam when your hair is dry, not wet. It doesn’t make your hair wet either as it’s supposed to be directly applied to your scalp rather than your hair. If it gets on your hair it will naturally evaporate and dry within a few minutes. It doesn’t impact on how frequently you wash your hair. It’s simple to use although I understand that it’s not for everyone
