48 and no wrinkles, what can I do to continue to keep them at bay?!

Although I clearly don't look 20, I do look considerably younger than I am and as I'm close to 50, what can I do to help my skin further?
My friends jokingly say I'll hit 50 and rapidly start to age Confused
I have no wrinkles but can see the start of a little sagging around my jaw and my skin generally doesn't look (understandably) young anymore but generally is pretty good.
My skincare routine is a bit shabby, I use the Aldi serum day & night and have a simple moisturiser with spf that I put on as well for daytime. And that's it, so clearly I could do better!!
I don't have endless time or money but would love to up my game and keep my skin looking youthful(ish) for as long as possible!

It sounds like it's working just fine for you now! Any changes you start to see in the next few years will likely be down to menopausal collagen loss and I'm not sure there's much to be done for that.

Henriettalll · 01/09/2020 18:07

What's your ethnicity? Some naturally age later and really do notice it after 50.
Keep up with spf. I use a separate one to my moisturiser.

MabelMoo23 · 01/09/2020 18:27

SPF!!!!

Honestly there is no magic skincare. Well there is. It’s called Factor 50. Every single day

MabelMoo23 · 01/09/2020 18:28

And not an SPF in a moisturiser. Separate SPF.

Double cleanse at night at night to make sure you remove it properly

allfalldown47 · 01/09/2020 20:44

I'm half Spanish, so I do tan nicely Blush

I do sometimes think I should just carry on with my lame routine but then when people seem so genuinely shocked that I'm the age I am, I do wonder if I need to try harder to maintain it! If that makes sense?

I'm very much almost through the menopause, I had a hysterectomy a few years ago.

By separate spf do you just mean sunscreen?

MabelMoo23 · 01/09/2020 21:49

@Juancornetto yes separate SPF should be sun screen as opposed to using a spf in foundation or moisturiser. It simply isn’t enough to give adequate protection from an anti aging point of view

Henriettalll · 02/09/2020 06:15

All i heard was wait til after you are 40, before 40 you get the skin born with after that the skin you deserve blah blah so this wait til after 50 is new to me. I know that for black skin the aging shows after 50, white women about 35, hispanic, 40. Its all about sun damage and smoking in my opinion.

rogueantimatter · 02/09/2020 06:23

Avoid getting spectacles Grin Spectacles can lead to an immediate onset of wrinkles in my experience.

allfalldown47 · 02/09/2020 06:29

@Henriettalll that's what I got as I approached 40, everyone joking that I wouldn't look so youthful once I hit 40, now as I approach 50 I'm getting it again!

Does anyone have a spf recommendation? Nothing to greasy as my skin can be oily at times.
Does it go on before or after my moisturiser? Sorry I'm a bit clueless Grin

@rogueantimatter That maybe unavoidable, ageing seems to be slowly affecting my vision!! Confused

It’s not wrinkles that I find a problem. I don’t have many and I’m in my 50s. It’s the onset of sagging and losing fullness in cheeks. Not sure what can be done about that tbh. Fillers? Surgery? Some face massage?

CrazyToast · 02/09/2020 06:46

Face exercises. You can look up some good ones on youtube. I do mine everyday and they reversed some of the small signs of aging I started to see. Also if you do start to see lines forming round the eyes you can get preventative botox/filler, there is also a treatment called fibroblast plasma which helps your skin regenerate. It is good to be preventative and act as soon as you see these little things starting. Face exercises for sure.

Can you recommend any? When I've looked before there's so many that I just can't decide and give up.

I'm 52 and am doing okay with the lines but the jowls and pelican neck are quite new so I'd like to get rid ASAP 😂

I used to think exactly the same and feel pretty pleased with myself that I've never smoked and never gone a day without sunscreen since my early 20s.* Always used the best skin I could afford.
I'm white and have never had any Botox, fillers or other procedures.

Everything went along tickety boo until the menopause (50) when I suddenly noticed a difference. The texture of my skin is still pretty good but the fact is that hormonal changes and gravity have made a big difference.

Mind you, I haven't had HRT either: may some posters have found that helpful?

*Although a lot of damage is done in childhood. I've made sure my daughters have always protected their skin, but my mother came from a generation would thought a tan looked healthy and encouraged me to go out in the sun unprotected.
Obviously not her fault - she thought she was doing the right thing.

allfalldown47 · 02/09/2020 07:39

Pelican neck you say? Confused Yes, I'd be keen to avoid this too!!

"skin care" of course.

Otherwise it sounds like I might also have been bathing in virgins' blood like some vampire queen Smile

Howzaboutye · 02/09/2020 08:16

Do what you want!
They are clearly all jealous!

Mind you, I picked the wrong one to scalp.

Benjispruce2 · 02/09/2020 09:37

I’m 49.My skin isn’t doing too badly either. I use Aldi day cream but in summer I switched to Boots protect and perfect face spf 30. I use The Ordinary hyalaronic(?) acid before moisturiser and it has plumped my skin. At night I use Aldi rose oil after cleansing with a flannel and warm water in the shower.

Benjispruce2 · 02/09/2020 09:40

@rogueantimatter if you avoid glasses you’ll squint causing more wrinkles!!!!

Benjispruce2 · 02/09/2020 09:42

Oh I get ya @rogueantimatter you mean they enable you to see more wrinkles!! Grin Sorry, bit slow this morning.

IceniSky · 02/09/2020 09:47

How can I tackle laughter lines around my eyes? They are really bad when I smile and I'm only early 40s.

Benjispruce2 · 02/09/2020 09:50

@IceniSky you can’t avoid them, they show you laugh, celebrate them. You can use spf, sunglasses and hyaluronic acid to aid moisture retention.
