WFH clothes - what looks good on video calls?

I’m starting a new job on Wednesday, initially full time WFH. The company use video in the main and I’ll be expected to video call with customers as much as possible.

So I’ve gone through my wardrobe and feel that my regular work clothes are too smart and my casual clothes are too casual.
What kind of things work best on video? Styles, light or dark colours, patterns, plains? Is it worth putting make up or can you not really tell?
As I haven’t worked since 23rd March, I think I need to ‘get dressed’ for work to shift my mindset From slobbing around. I don’t want to look too try hard though.

Any suggestions?

Channel daytime TV presenters and newsreaders! Block colours that suit you, reds, greens and teal are good on me. Flattering neckline for you, but keep it simple. Avoid busy patterns or fine stripes ( as a PP said )which can strobe.

Also - anyone know if there's an enhance your appearance button on a Mac, asking for a friend.

Enhance my appearance button you say

I’m on video calls every day and sometimes have to present to large groups. My top tips:
Lighting lighting lighting on your face.
More make up than usual
Bigger hair than usual
Laptop on a riser stand for a better angle
Plain top that contrasts with the wall behind you
Um, I think that’s it!

Angie from Hot and Flashy has a really useful YouTube 'tutorial' on looking your best on Zoom etc.

We have corporate virtual backgrounds for customer calls which make it look more professional.
Def raise the laptop up, or if you are using a monitor, get a separate webcam so you are looking up to the camera.
Depending on lighting, you could consider a ring light - they aren't very much, but good lighting in front of you makes a huge difference, and improves the image quality
I look hugely better on video with a tiny bit of contouring, and powder on my nose
Put a bright dot next to your camera so you talk to that, not the picture on the screen
