I can’t find the glasses. I think there by Nau eyewear. But I like your glasses please tell me where did you get them.

Specsavers, I usually buy their designer ranges costing £100-120. I'm wearing their Kylie Minogue range & Hilfiger ones at the moment, but I've had Cath Kidston, Puma & other brands, I nearly always have plastic frames as my prescription is very thick on one eye.

Ploughingthrough · 31/08/2020 06:46

Specsavers. One near me has a good range, right now I'm wearing a pair of black Nicole Farhi frames that were 130 pounds.

Happynow001 · 31/08/2020 07:00

Specsavers. I tend to wait till they've got a deal on to buy as I have a complicated prescription and prefer ultra-thin lenses, which are expensive. I've bought at Boots opticians before but they were much more expensive.

Cubitts

I recommend them to anyone who asks
The service was impeccable

Black & Lizars.

I have progressives with quite a high prescription (+5 in the worst eye). If I buy them through a chain optometrist with a fairly average range of frames it can cost me around $NZ1,000. While I would love to support the local industry, that is far too much to pay when I want to be able to update frames every year or so. Therefore, I look for other ways.
I've had about five pairs over about seven years from Zennioptical which is a fantastic online American supplier. There are probably UK equivalents. They have thousands of frames to choose from; even when narrowed down to those suitable for progressive lenses, I have a choice of hundreds. I can get a pair of metal or plastic framed specs for about $NZ200, including shipping and currency exchange. Turnaround is about 3 weeks. The process is simple. You upload a picture of your face, without glasses, and try the frames on virtually. It's important to measure the arms, nose, depth etc of glasses that you already own, and compare the specs with the measurements provided for each frame. Only once have I had to take a Zenni pair into a store and pay for a slight arm adjustment. For this option you need to have a copy of your prescription but you have a right to this by paying an optometrist for an eye test.
The other thing I have done is keep an eye out for frames I like in off-the-rack readers, or sunglasses, spending maybe $20-$50, and take these into a local optometrist to have prescription lenses fitted. Some places charge a fee to compensate for not making a profit on frames but it still works out far cheaper than frames+lenses.
I love having a choice of frames to wear. Don't get me wrong, I'm no Prue Leith with a wardrobe of face furniture, but life is too short to have to wear the same specs for years on end.

Specsavers. I have a small head and a complicated prescription - extreme short sight, astigmatism, require varifocals and lens thinning. So my choice of frames is restricted to what will fit me rather than what suits me. This also means that my lenses cost several hundred pounds.

Purplekitchen · 31/08/2020 08:11

I like these glasses as worn by Branwen Jeffreys (bbc education correspondent).
Anyone know where they are from?
I only changed mine back in January - in Boots so can't really justify new ones, unless they had an accident 🤔

Specsavers because they were open during lockdown (I'm an essential worker so was able to go get some new ones). It was a much lower effort than usual because rather than trying loads on, I showed my old frames to the shop assistant and she picked out some similar ones for me ;)

EggHead268 · 31/08/2020 08:22

Selectspecs, the frames are really cheap but very good quality. I have quite a high prescription and need them ultra super thin and all this anti glare anti blue light stuff on them so the lenses are more expensive than the actual frames but still reasonable. Had last 2 pairs from them, both cost about £50-60 all in. Previously had a pair of Hugo boss glasses from Specsavers that I absolutely loved but they wanted £100 just to reglaze them! They only cost £120 brand new including the lenses!? Might get then reglazed from somewhere online next time my prescription changes.

Local independent opticians. Frames are Lindberg, lenses are progressive digitals. Very spendy but I’m the kind of person who will keep the same pair of frames for many years rather than changing them regularly, and like a PP, I have a small head so am restricted in what works for me. (I’m just too big for kids’ frames, but most women’s frames are too wide on me.)

If you’re anywhere near London I’d recommend checking out Finlay & Co.

BikeRunSki · 31/08/2020 08:33

Local independent, Frames are by “Eyespace”.

Chrestomanci3 · 31/08/2020 08:34

Local independent. I find Specsavers frames are all too wide on me but I can get a better fit from Scandinavian brands.

mdh2020 · 31/08/2020 08:58

Local independent optometrist who has the same machines as Moorfields. I’m wearing Tiffany frames. I have complicated lenses but he still does the free sunglasses offer.

JaceLancs · 31/08/2020 09:00

Local independent frames are from stepper - you can customise the lens shape to suit - size etc

fitbciz1 · 31/08/2020 09:01

Specsavers - I have a very small face and find their petite and teens ranges very good.

LaPampa · 31/08/2020 11:26

Local independent. Much better service than Specsavers and nicer frames.

ChequerBoard · 31/08/2020 15:07

Local independent, always offer great advice when choosing frames and lenses. I honestly wouldn't have picked the frames I now have, they were suggested by the dispenser and I love them - they suit my face so much better than my previous frames. They are LK Bennett LKB013 frames one black/charcoal grey.

ImaSababa · 31/08/2020 15:12

I have four pairs from a Chinese website called Firmoo. Super cheap, and decent quality. They take a few weeks to arrive but worth the wait.

Redcrayons · 31/08/2020 15:15

Specsavers.

I’m on their contact lens scheme so get a discount with them.

There is no way I would buy my glasses online. Having a complex prescription and requiring varifocals means I need glasses from somewhere that can fit them properly.
GrimDamnFanjo · 31/08/2020 17:12

Www.Seen.co.uk in Manchester. I'm a massive fan especially as I have such poor eyesight and they use the world's thinnest lenses so I can wear whatever frame I like now!
They stock eyewear from brands such as Anne et Valintin, Theo, Jacques Marie Mage and Garret Leight.

GoatsInBoats · 31/08/2020 17:23

Select Specs. My prescription is mild and not very complicated, so I just chose frames where all the dimensions are as close as possible to a pair of glasses that I already owned and liked.

@EggHead268 Select Specs do reglazing.
