Reasonably priced, decent jumpers and cardigans?

I'm looking for new jumpers for my winter wardrobe. I don't have good relationships with knitwear usually. I always ruin them in the laundry. So if anyone could give me shop/brand direction? and laundry tips would be most welcome!
I'm early 30s and like plain colours. General style is quite classic but with the odd country style thrown in.

I dont mind spending 50 - 70 quid of i can get a couple of winters out of it.

Woolovers a great start, natural fibres, just don't tumble dry them.

ChiaraMontague · 30/08/2020 21:56

I got some really lovely cashmere jumpers from Boden last year - relaxed fit v-neck. They were expensive full price but they have 20% offers quite often

NotMeNoNo · 30/08/2020 22:00

Most washing machines have a hand wash cycle. Use Woolite or similar. If hung to air they should only need occasional washing, don't overdo it.
Hobbs have nice knitwear too .

fiorentina · 30/08/2020 22:01

Uniqlo are always great quality basics.

Hazelnutlatteplease · 30/08/2020 22:01

I agree with the above. They arent the most fashionable cut but you cant beat woolovers for a decent hardwaring warm natural fibre jumper. I dont go for the cashmeresimply because I destroy cashmere. But the wool jumpers I reckon are pretty indestructible including in the washing machine

Timeandtune · 30/08/2020 22:03

I am a huge fan of Woolovers which I only recently discovered. Very good quality and good customer service.

Bluewavescrashing · 30/08/2020 22:03

Avoid acrylic. Merino is good.

goose1964 · 30/08/2020 22:09

I find M&S good for jumpers. I've some that are over 10years old and still look good.

Neolara · 30/08/2020 22:11

I also recommend Woolovers.

niceupthedance · 30/08/2020 22:14

Sézane do excellent knitwear but the jumpers are around £90. Last forever so stylish and comfy. (No I don't work for them!)

mallowa · 30/08/2020 22:15

zara have some nice knitwear

nancybotwinbloom · 30/08/2020 22:19

Brand alley had done good Ralph Lauren jumpers on sale today.

Nitw1t · 30/08/2020 22:23

Also came on to say woolovers.

Lilybet1980 · 30/08/2020 22:25

@fiorentina

Uniqlo are always great quality basics.
Agreed. I buy a couple of either Merino or Cashmere sweaters from here each year.
TheBitterBoy · 30/08/2020 22:27

Uniqlo extra fine merino, I have several of their cardigans for work, they are machine washable and look good as new after two years.

monkeyonthetable · 30/08/2020 22:28

Definitely cashmere. Really not that hard to care for. I put it in the 15 minute quick cycle on a low heat and gentle spin in the machine, then tumble it on the cool setting. Store it in a zip bag with lavender sachet to keep the moths away during summer. Buy in the sales. Kitten soft, lasts forever and keeps its shape.

Lydia777 · 30/08/2020 22:32

I really like countryattire.com-they have lots of v expensive clothes but can have good knitware items on sale sometimes. Yesterday, I bought a lovely navy Joules jumper and White cable knit jumper-Peregrine.

Evanna13 · 30/08/2020 22:33

Woolovers, I love the cashmere. I handwash in cool water and dry flat.

Lydia777 · 30/08/2020 22:36

Oh also, I find Jack Wills Cable Crew Jumpers good quality and if you find Ralph Lauren on sale, the quality is excellent-I have had Ralph Lauren Knitware which has lasted for years so I would see it as an investment!

Hazelnutlatteplease · 30/08/2020 22:38

I know mumsnet love cashmere. But it only takes one rogue moth and hundred quid worth of investment is down the drain. [Side eyes the bag of now worthless cashmere jumpers]. If you prefer your clothing low faff it really isn't a good choice.

snappycamper · 30/08/2020 22:57

How do people find the sizing at woolovers? I'm considering a purchase but am between sizes and wondering whether to go up or down

Timeandtune · 31/08/2020 07:38

I think Woolovers is fairly true to size. I would go up rather than down because I don’t like things to be on the tight side.

NotMeNoNo · 31/08/2020 07:40

Woolovers used to give exact measurements of the garments so you can check. If you wanted a close for you should size down.

Eve · 31/08/2020 07:46

Try Edinburgh wooden mill , in amongst the polyester and dubious prints they do some good basic Wool & cashmere jumpers & cardigans

Evanna13 · 31/08/2020 08:20

I find woolovers true to size. You could also try pure collection. Cashmere from both is so soft, like wearing a hug.
