Any Dermatica users?

Hi, I’m thinking of signing up for the anti-ageing stuff. I am late 30s and want to prevent ageing as far as possible.

Just wondered if any of you have used it and have any tips? I have used The Ordinary retinoid before as well as La Roche Posay but it didn’t have a huge effect on my skin (although my skin is fairly good to be fair so maybe I was expecting too much).

Also, any tips of SPF moisturisers gratefully received. I am currently using Olay regeneration but am happy to try other brands.

Finally, does anyone know if I can carry on using other treatments (obvs not the same day as retinol) or whether I should stop. I currently use The Ordinary AHA and BHA peeling solution once a week and The Ordinary Alpha-Lipoic Acid a couple of times a week but obv I will stop if that’s better.

Many thanks in advance!

Sorry, auto correct fail, should say Olay regenerist.

I've been using Dermatica for a year or so. Started out on adapalene & niacinamide, now moved on to tretinoin and hydroquinone for oily, acne & hyperpigmentation-prone skin. It's made a huge difference.

If you tell them what you're using, they'll advise on which products you can continue alongside the recommended treatment. I've always had very prompt responses when I've had queries.

And I use LRP Anthelios XL SPF50 every day, it doesn't cause any irritation unlike others I've tried.

@NamedyChangedy thank you so much, that’s so helpful. I am pleased you feel that the products make a difference. I am going to go for it and sign up.

It’s amazing. I use the Tretinoin and Hydroquinone. I’ve been using it since May and I can suddenly see a huge difference in my skin. It’s clear, bright and beautifully soft. I’m so pleased. My routine is very simple I don’t use loads of other oils and serums, just cleanser, moisturiser and Dermatica. I love it!

Loseastonein21years · 30/08/2020 18:25

Wow I can’t wait now! Really looking forward to it and pleased that it’s working so well for others.

I use tret and niacinamide and love it. They’ll recommend an spf, but I use Nuxe factor 50 which I love but definitely isn’t for everyone as it’s not matte.

OneForTheRoadThen · 31/08/2020 07:20

I'm just about to start my 4th month. I'm on 0.1% tret and 4% niacinamide and I use it every night. TBH I am slightly disappointed, I haven't noticed a difference in my skin at all really. I know it's early days so I'm going to continue for a few more months at least but I haven't noticed the effects that other people rave about!

MandalaYogaTapestry · 31/08/2020 07:37

OneFor, I read that retinol produces visible changes over a year or so. It really is a long-term journey. Are you also using SPF every day, in any weather? Without sunscreen, all the good work of retinol comes undone because you are just damaging the skin back with sun exposure.

It needs to be a proper separate SPF, not a day cream or foundation with added SPF.

OneForTheRoadThen · 31/08/2020 08:02

Thanks Mandala yes I do use one, Biore Watery Essence, everyday. I'll keep at it then and hope it improves over time.

Loseastonein21years · 31/08/2020 11:15

@MandalaYogaTapestry thanks for the tip about the SPF. I hadn’t realised that it couldn’t just be a day cream with added SPF. I will get a proper one.

@OneForTheRoadThen when I’ve used OTC retinoids I haven’t really noticed a difference either. Tbh I wouldn’t be unhappy if my skin stayed the same but I’d really love to prevent any future damage. Have read some testimonials from long term retinol users saying their skin looks 10 years younger when they’re in their 50s which would be amazing for the future.

@Loseastonein21years Dermatica is a prescription service though so these aren't OTC which is why I thought I'd see a difference! I'll persevere but I'm not sure it's worth the £23 a month it costs.

Loseastonein21years · 31/08/2020 12:01

Thanks @OneForTheRoadThen. Yes, £23 is quite a lot of money so I totally understand that. I will give it a go for 6 months or so I think and then decide.

I use dermatica for tret with niacinamide. Early days but happy so far - my skin is pretty good already, just trying to keep it that way!

OneForTheRoadThen · 31/08/2020 12:30

@Loseastonein21years in regards to your other question I use The Ordinary Peeling solution as well as the tret. I use it on the same day, just in the morning and not had any problems although my skin isn't particularly sensitive. I haven't used the other product you mentioned so can't help with that.

For sunscreen I like Biore Watery Essence or La ROche Posay.

Loseastonein21years · 01/09/2020 06:34

Thanks @OneForTheRoadThen that’s really helpful

Got my first packet and have applied the solution for the first time just now. No stinging actually so either my skin is hardcore or it’s a mild dose. I was dreading it being painful. Am going to try doing it every other night for a couple of weeks before moving to nightly. Fingers crossed I get some good results.

Hi OP. I started Dermatica 2 weeks ago and so far so good.

I have hyper pigmentation so I'm on tetinoin with hydroqunine. I think it's working already.

mrslebon · 02/09/2020 22:22

It doesn’t have to cost you £23 a month. A tube lasts longer than that so you can set your intervals to 56 days.

Loseastonein21years · 03/09/2020 07:26

Thanks @mrslebon. That’s great to know. The bottle definitely does look like it will last me longer than a month. Amended it to 40 days now and will then amend it further if I need to.

Loseastonein21years · 03/09/2020 07:29

@Bingowin great that it’s working for you. Let me know how you get on further with it.

As I’m now using a separate sunscreen rather than SPF moisturiser, I am going to splash out on a nice new non-SPF moisturiser. Love the look of the Elemis Superfood one.

OP posts:
Bingowin · 03/09/2020 07:39

@Loseastonein21years I think they recommend a mineral sunscreen so check that the Elemis one is.
I have been using Eclat which I bought from Amazon,it’s pretty cheap and has good reviews.
At night I’m using a basic Boots dead cheap cream.

nevertoooldforindie · 05/09/2020 18:06

I’ve just started as well with trey and hydroquinone. I have a lot of redness capillaries and sensitive skin so have been doing every other night for two weeks.

Thanks for the spf advice have been perusing some online this afternoon. Do people reapply through the day ? I use a serum am and before bed but maybe I should add in sone moisturiser

Loseastonein21years · 05/09/2020 21:27

Thanks. I have bought a mineral susnscreen so the moisturiser is just to go underneath that so doesn’t need to have sunscreen too. Have been using nightly for 4 nights now and still no stinging or redness which is good.
