Fringe - bad idea?

I haven’t had a fringe since I was about eight, but on a whim today I thought I might have one cut.

Is this a terrible idea? I reasoned that if I don’t like it I can grow it out again.

I have a long face and have lost weight this year which has emphasised it, so I think I can carry off a fairly substantial fringe. My hair is a messy, just below chin length bob, and will stay that way otherwise.

Thoughts? Regrets?

Pretty evenly spread @gypsywater. Definitely more forehead than chin.

@WinterAndRoughWeather Will prob really suit you then! Maybe a relaxed kind of side swept one to start with?

I have thick wavy hair and a calf lick. I had a fringe cut in about 10/11 years ago and loved it but it's a nightmare. Goes wavy at the slightest hint of damp or sweat, has to be straightened etc but I loved it..would growing out then want it back and my hairdresser would warn me each time I'd need to train it back in Grin.
I've thought about having it again but my hair seems to have become pretty curly these days and as I rarely straighten it, I've not bothered with it as curly hair and a poker straight fringe are a bit 1980s. I do.miss it and it's cheaper than.Botox for your forehead!

I've regretted every time I've had a fringe cut... and have also discovered in the process a side-swept slightly longer one works best for my face.

Saying that though, my general attitude to hair is that it's worth trying anything, it will always grow back. Sounds like your face shape would really suit it, too.

Anything that increases the amount of hair on your face is probably not advisable at the moment. I find if I wear my hair down I’m constantly touching my face. So a fringe slightly in the long side would be a nightmare for me.

That said I bloody love a thick, straight fringe. But with thick wavy hair it hair doesn’t work for me unfortunately. (DP has forbidden me from ever getting a fringe again because I moaned so much about the maintenance last time).

Go for It love fringes

WinterAndRoughWeather · 01/09/2020 04:49

I’m a lost cause when it comes to touching my face @Lilybet1980, I’m constantly rubbing, scratching etc.

I live in a low Covid country though and there have been no cases in my area, so I don’t worry about it. Other than the masks (and tourism collapse), life is pretty normal here and has been for a while. I just wash and disinfect my hands all the time and that will have to do.

The more I read on your thread OP, the more I’m thinking “get a fringe” for myself. I’ve long straight hair. Bra strap length. However, my hereditary forehead lines and lack of brow are making me look very tired out on a bad day. A soft full-ish fringe would sort that completely. Found a pic of the lovely Bo Derek last night which explains what I mean. Will try to post ...

A facelift/Botox is out of the question but this may be a good way of hiding the years!

I sometimes hanker after a fringe, imagining It will look sophisticated and flattering like Marianne’s from Normal People, but unfortunately I have wavy hair and it more often seems to make me look like the 80s footballer Kevin Keegan (showing my age here). Can work beautifully on many people though so maybe try one of those face photo apps OP!

Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree · 01/09/2020 11:47

I’ve had a fringe for pretty much my entire life!

It is easy, takes a couple of seconds to run my straighteners through it and if it looks at all greasy I dry shampoo it (tiny squirt on the brush and brush through) or use an organic baby powder (on the brush).

Verite1 · 01/09/2020 12:08

I sporadically have a fringe. When I have it cut back in I get lots of compliments including how much younger I look. However it is much higher maintenance so tend to grow it out during summer/holiday times etc. Haven’t had one since start over lockdown but enjoying just washing my hair and leaving it

This thread (and a recent photo showing my forehead lines) has got me thinking about having a fringe now!

Like i said before though, my face is sooooo round, double chin, chubby cheeks and i wear glasses, so i don;t really have the face for one. When i did have a fringe, it was like a side one, so that defeats the purpose of hiding forehead lines. I'm advised i can't carry of a blunt straight across fringe.

Damn glasses and my chubby face!
