How do you air dry your hair in your 40s?

I try and limit the amount I blow-dry my hair, partially out of trying to protect it from damage, and partially because I'm lazy and there's not enough hours in the day! I've got quite a natural wave to my hair and in the past this has always worked well, but as I've got into my 40s its just started to look like scruffy, frizzy mess. I try to limit washing my hair to twice a week, and I've completely given up on regular conditioner; every time I wash my hair I use a hair mask or a conditioning treatment. Once its washed I wrap it up in one of those fancy Aquis towels to dry, then blow dry my fringe and put a balm through my hair, with either a serum or an hair oil on top but its just not working any more and I feel like a complete scruff bag! What am I doing wrong? Can you wise you ladies style your hair on the days you're not blow drying it?

I have hair that sounds a lot like yours OP. It went frizzy and wavy in my 40s, I have tried the curly girl method but it doesn't suit my hair - I have a mixture of waves, curls and straight bits and air drying leads to frizz.
I wash my hair just once a week (use shower cap in between, tie out of the way with invisibobble and hairband if exercising or cleaning as sweating leads to frizz!) with OGX Moroccan oil shampoo and conditioner, then leave it til it's almost dry and then apply quite a bit of Moroccan oil. I then dry with my Revlon One Step which gives a nice smooth finish. When I use Moroccan oil first I don't need to straighten after to smooth it.

Can I ask how you shower on non hair washing days? Do you use a shower cap, and do the edges of your hair get wet?

I wash it every other day. I shower at night without a shower cap, so I just twist and clip it up and lower the shower head to neck height. It does get a bit damp round the edges, but it doesn't seem to matter. It's always nicer on the second day.

Thank you so much for all your suggestions! A lot of people seem to be washing their hair at night and going to bed with it wet. I’ve always ended up with a bit of a kinky mess when I do that (LOL, not that kind of kinky!) but maybe it’s time to revisit that with a bit of styling in the morning as some people are doing? @MorrisZapp on days I’m not washing my hair I just tie it up before I get in the shower so it doesn’t get wet, maybe it’s time to invest in a proper shower cap? @EatsFartsAndLeaves (great name BTW!) I colour my hair as I can’t quite face going grey yet buy other than that I try and treat my hair quite gently, lots of conditioning treatments and leave in balms, little heat, I never straighten it, gentle hairbrushes and the like. @cosmopolitanplease that sounds interesting, I’ve got some Moroccan oil knocking around somewhere, maybe I need to invest in some Revlon One Step too?

Apologies if I wasn't clear, the Revlon One Step is a hot air brush. It smooths beautifully Smile

@planningaheadtoday what kind of turban do you wear in bed? Can you link to one?

Section into three and whizz the dyson airwrap hard brush through it, dry and styled in 10 minutes.
