Never happy with my hair- hairdresser tomorrow!

As in the title- tomorrow is my first hairdresser appointment in 6 months, and I'm not sure if I should keep the length or go much shorter. I'm one of those people who keep growing hair and then cut it much shorter, but can never find a 'style' that I like.

Hair is currently well below my shoulders, it's straight, fine, but looks ok, if a bit skinny in a ponytail... but it always ends up in a ponytail and I feel a bit plain. I had a bob last year and it did look good, but ended up growing it out immediately, not sure why. I think I like feminine styles, but my hair doesn't look great very long.

Anyone else have similar experience? What do you end up doing? I don't like mid lengths either, which probably doesn't help Confused.

Find a good hairdresser.
Get a 'growing out' style - long layers.

A bob is high maintenance. I have hair that grows slowly but when I had a bob it would look great for 5 weeks then needed a trim every six weeks.

Oh it has grown out, I had a bob last year- I think I must have grown it out because of maintenance but I don't remember. I definitely need a trim, but just can't get it right with the very fine texture.
Is there any magical hair style that'll make it look better? I thought no layers better for fine, or will it make it even flatter? Here's a pic of the length, looks frizzy because I fell asleep with wet head Hmm...it's usually smooth without straightening.

I think you misunderstood what I meant - my fault for not being clear.
I meant long soft layers, slightly framing the face.

Another one, again sorry about the fluffy texture. Anyone else with fine hair can advise on a style? I'm probably not going to go short after Mike reminded me about frequent haircuts Grin...

Mike should I ask for long layers? Last time I had layers, the bottom looked see through, due to not enough hair left there Shock

I'm going to say the F word. Would you suit a fringe? Grin I love having my hair up in a ponytail or bun with a fringe. It looks more flattering and a bit more styled.

Then a blunt cut on the ends maybe a couple of inches to make it look thicker.

EraOfTheGrey · 28/08/2020 15:44

I agree that you should ask for a blunt cut with perhaps a long curtain fringe.

It looks nice OP.

Thanks everyone, I like the idea of blunt cut with a fringe. I had a side fringe but it's all grown out. Would curtain fringe work with side parting, or do I need centre parting? I think Jenna Coleman's style could work, I've the same face shape as her. I could keep it tiny bit longer than this.

Yes that would look good. Then you can wear it up or down. I've got a round face and find a longer side sweeping fringe looks best.
Post an after photo if you're brave!

Smurftastic · 29/08/2020 15:04

Thanks everyone, I ended up getting an inch off the ends and a fringe. Fringe looks great, although it's still trying to go on one side as that's how I used to wear it. Looks much better without committing to short hair. I'm thinking about going darker brown to even out the colour too.
