Hot air brush?

Hi all, I was about to buy the reckon hot air brush thing then realised they're £50+!
Found some on amazon for around £25, they have very good reviews and seem to do the same thing. Anyone got experience with the cheaper amazon ones ?

(I can't afford a dyson air wrap)

I have the Revlon and the Airwrap. I like my Dyson very much, but it's always the Revlon I reach for first. If you have £50 spare, its worth every penny.

I had the one from amazon and found it's not as effective as straighteners but takes the same amount of time. After 3/4 months I found it doesn't heat up as much as it's used to so I think the quality is poor.

If I'm talking about the same thing I've got the babyliss big hair. Have had it for over ten years, it's great.

I have the Revlon and I just can’t get on with it. @Shmithecat2 do you dry your hair a bit before using it?

@Turnedouttoes not really, it might be in a towel for maybe 5 mins, but that's it. I do go round in quite small sections though. My hair is long, quite thick, and fairly unruly.

I'm not a fan of them to be honest. I have fine, long hair and lots of it, it takes ages to dry properly and I think it really hinges on your hair type and cut as to whether they're any good full stop.

I borrowed a friends dyson one for a few days and I didn't find it any better really albeit it was lighter and had a bit more power. Bayliss big hair was awful and such a faff. I get the same results from blowdrying my hair roughly upside down the using straighteners to curl under the ends for that bouncy blowdry effect.

If you're on a budget OP I'd recommend borrowing one off a friend to try and see how you get on. Or oder from somewhere like QVC, where you can send it back if you don't like it.

@tournedouttoes
My friend demonstrated hers and she uses it when her hair is about 80% dry to 'set' the style and give volume.

Thanks @CouldBeOuting I'll check it out. May I ask if you have long or short hair ? Mine is quite long but I get achy arms using a bush and dryer !

I got the babyliss big hair and I love it, I looked at cheaper versions but I couldn’t find one that had the spinning action.

I have babyliss big hair, I would totally recommend it, makes styling hair really easy. I have lots of different gadgets, the big hair is my favourite.

When I first got it my hair was just below shoulder length. These days it’s a put jaw length and it still does the job.

I get my hair about 2/3rds dry by blasting it with the dryer and then I finish with the air brush.

I have one that spins. The first (& last) time I used it, my hair wrapped round it & wouldn't undo. It took 15 minutes of frantically teasing strands off it while praying I wouldn't have to resort to scissors, to release myslef from it. My hair wasn't even that long at the time.

Where did I go wrong?

I absolutely love my Babyliss Big Hair - had it for 3 and a half years (bought it after so many recommendations on MN) and used it constantly.

It finally slowed down and gave it up a few months ago so I upgraded to the new version and wished I hadn't. I don't get the same results with it and find it much heavier and difficult to use. And it's more expensive.

I've just purchased one of the older versions again (£39.99 from John Lewis or Amazon). and wish I hadn't wasted money on the newer one.

I tried one that spins .... I too got totally tangled and would never risk it again.
