LED Light Therapy Masks for acne

CharlottesComplicatedWeb · 26/08/2020 18:21

Do they work? Are they harmful?

Am thinking of getting one for DS who has acne and a,though it’s better than it was using something called “SkinKissed Serum” he does have some scarring.

I’ve read that Blue LED works on reducing the actual acne whilst one of the other mask colours built in, works in the healing and scarring aspect.

Anyone have any experience of these things? When I go online there’s so many of them but...I’m dubious 😐

Is he under the doctor?.

CharlottesComplicatedWeb · 26/08/2020 21:02

Yes, we’ve tried many things under the GP.

I hadn’t heard of this @CharlottesComplicatedWeb (sorry am no help) but it certainly sounds interesting.

I’m plan on trying to get a private dermatology appointment for my son tomorrow. GP was just prescribed him another course of antibiotics and he is very reluctant to take them this time round. Feel like we need expert help now. Will certainly ask about this if I can get an appointment - tempted to try it first but £££!

Beachbodylonggone · 26/08/2020 21:22

My adult dd has just bought one. Def a good idea she says!

CharlottesComplicatedWeb · 26/08/2020 21:31

@Beachbodylonggone, has she begun using it? Can I ask which one? There are so many and the price range is huge. Argos do one for £129 which gets good reviews then they jump to around £300. If I thought it’d help, I’d pay for one happily.

@Stoichio... GP tried antibiotics and various washes/creams/gels but everything was so harsh. DS has Aspergers so, it’s difficultly getting him to comply with anything which in his eyes, makes matters worse.

Her home hairdresser /beautician friend sold her one at cost price... £85!! She has acne associated with pcos although she doesn't have pcos!
Confused

Hormonecrazyhell · 26/08/2020 21:45

They do work, but it’s not something you use once, results aren’t quick. 8 weeks really. You have to keep on using it regularly. You can get them as cheap as £30. I didn’t try that one, I tried mid range (Argos) & sent that back as it was too uncomfortable around the eyes. The one I kept was lablife, but I got it on offer.
As much as the companies tell you how comfortable and convenient they are, my experience is they aren’t. I literally have to set the time aside an lay there.

CharlottesComplicatedWeb · 26/08/2020 22:18

Oh... not sure DS will comply.

I’ve decided to order DS a lustre clearskin solo. Seems to have good reviews and can get on with other stuff whilst it is on, unlike the mask. Not too expensive either...main drawback is that only does small section at a time (but they also sell a trio). Just watched a YT video with the inventor who explains advantage over full mask.
Will delay trying to get that appointment now @CharlottesComplicatedWeb - thank you! Will try and remember to come back to this thread in a few weeks with review...

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/08/2020 05:00

If the gp meds haven’t worked and he’s scarring the mask won’t work. I’ve been there and done that.

He’d be eligible to see dermatology with a view to Roaccutane. Which is very easy to take as it’s one tablet a day for 4 months. I took Roaccutane and my skin improved from the first week.

cks.nice.org.uk/topics/acne-vulgaris/management/primary-care-management/

Acne treatment guidelines. If the spots leave marks it’s scarring, you should heal from it with no marks. It’s a difficult infection to shift.

CharlottesComplicatedWeb · 27/08/2020 07:55

Thank you @Fluffycloudland77 for that.

@Stoichio that does look interesting.

I just want to help him. It’s difficult. At the minute, his OCD is pretty rampant so he’s had his meds upped. I’ve ordered some organic Green People stuff to try which gets good reviews. I wish there weren’t such amazing reviews in these masks because I immediately thought “wow! How quickly can this be shipped to us?” False hope, then? @Fluffy...you’ve tried the mask then? Snake Oil?

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 27/08/2020 08:29

It’s not snake oil it’s just than superficial infections like this are ironically too deep for the mask to treat when it’s anything like this. It’s only for mild acne.

Acne is 4-6 months of antibiotics, tonsillitis is 10 days of antibiotics to put it into perspective.

CharlottesComplicatedWeb · 27/08/2020 15:02

@Fluffycloudland77... nicely explained. Thanks.

I know this is old thread but how did you get on with the led or anything that helped the acne .

CharlottesComplicatedWeb · 29/12/2024 13:17

He couldn’t tolerate the mask and I gave it away.

Time and Holland & Barrett’s Acne tablets helped him massively.

Should add, when the tablets aren’t available, his skin deteriorates again. He’s 24 now.
