Does anyone rate Cerave?

I tried the SA cleanser & it broke me out even more, wondering whether to try the hydrating or the foaming ones?

Trying to improve my skin in any way I can. I have tiny bumps under the skin in areas, prone to blemishes & have large pores in places.

I really rate the hydrating cleanser, and would recommend it unless you have genuine sensitive/prone to irritation skin.

You may want to check that you don't have fungal acne as the under the skin bumps are characteristic of that and the Cerave SA cleanser is known to aggravate it in some due to one of the ingredients. The hydrating cleanser may have it too, IIRC, but not sure on that one.

I really like it, I have very sensitive skin that normally only likes Dermalogica so am glad to have found something cheaper

Where do you buy vanicream from @Oopsadaisydoddle, I thought it was only sold in the US?

Tinks15 · 25/08/2020 12:51

Thanks @botemp maybe that is what it is.

@Oopsadaisydoddles I will take a look at vanicream. Has it cleared your fungal acne up?

Is fungal acne only something the gp or dermatologist can sort?

I've recently started using the average smoothing cream on my arms to get rid of some keratosis pilaris and so far it seems good.

botemp · 25/08/2020 13:01

It's a bit tricky @Tinks15 as it's a relatively new diagnosis and a lot of GPs aren't that familiar with it. A dermatologist would be better but in these times difficult to access unless you pay for private. Apparently it can clear up pretty quick by using anti dandruff shampoo (I think it's down to the zinc pyrithione) but I'm not sure how eager I'd be to try that without a formal diagnosis.

I've posted a link to a helpful resource on fungal acne in the second to last post (currently) of the fantastic skincare threads but there's some caveats to it that I've explained there.

Thanks, @Oopsadaisydoddle, good to have more simple and gentle cleanser options. I'll have a look on my local Amazon.

OP, this by Dr Sam Bunting may be helpful as well. I believe she mentioned fungal acne often is diagnosed alongside other issues like seb derm or rosacea so it is probably worth seeking out a diagnosis.

Thanks @botemp just watched this that was helpful.

@Oopsadaisydoddle I Was recommended Cetaphil few years back & it did nothing for me. Didn’t realise the ingredients were bad.

I want to go down the cheapest option first & see if that makes a difference, so wondering if I should buy some Nizoral & try 🤷🏻‍♀️
I’m going to order the Vanicream too.

@Oopsadaisydoddle thank you that’s really helpful!

If I have got FA then it’s very minimal anyway, I probably have about 10 on my forehead & a handful on each cheek. I will do patch test for the Nizoral first though just in case I am usually ok with most products so hopefully will be fine.

Finding a decent exfoliater is a whole new issue, just can’t find one that is suitable or works!

I use cerave face moisturiser with spf. I like it because it actually does the job and is a good price. But I’m 52 and have dry skin with just the odd spot or blackhead, so it might depend on skin type.

@Oopsadaisydoddle

How often do you use the Paula’s choice bha exfoliator?

I’ve used a couple of The Ordinary products in the past, I either didn’t use them properly or enough to notice a difference or I bought the wrong product for me. There’s so much to choose from I never know where to start it’s so overwhelming, people keep telling me to take it back to basics & just do a simple routine but that’s easier said than done when you don’t have great skin.

@Oopsadaisydoddle The Ordinary just isn’t for everyone I guess. Saying that I do like their Rose Hip Oil which I use a few times a week that doesn’t seem to upset my skin. I’ve recently tried the inkey list but I didn’t get on with that either. I don’t think my skin likes much really 😏

I use the Heliocare SPF as well & I really like it, it’s the only one that doesn’t break me out. The L’Occitane gel moisturiser sounds good, I can only use gel moisturisers everything else seems to clog my pores.
