Expensive shampoo

Are there any hairdressers here that can shed light on whether the more expensive hair are brands are better than high street ones?

Looking for a new shampoo and some are crazy money. I won't be paying £££ for a small bottle of shampoo, but Should I be striving toward a better brand?

Thanks!

Sorry not a hairdresser to comment from professional stand point. My hairdresser told me it’s more of an ingredient thing in some of the cheaper shampoos they can cause build up, colour fade and just not be that great.

Thank you!

Another person who is not a hairdresser but has discovered that you only need to use a very small amount of the expensive brands, so (as long as you can force yourself to do that) the cost works out broadly similar.

My hairdresser tells me cheap shampoo, small amount, only on roots scalp, but expensive conditioner.

I use ogx shampoo and aveda/oribe conditioner

I think it’s about finding what works for your hair, unfortunately. I’ve been using kerastase shampoo and tresemme conditioner for years and years and my hair just loves it. Even when I get my hair washed with aveda at the salon it isn’t as nice. I have tried others over the years and none have worked as well. I get my shampoo online at a discount, and the conditioner is so cheap it almost offsets the cost (a few £ for 900ml). I discovered this completely by chance so sorry to say I think trial and error is the way forward with shampoo and conditioner.

Which Kerastase shampoo do you use?

My hair has become awful over lockdown, not sure why. I had it cut and coloured beginning of July but it looks really bad again...am losing more than I should and it's thin, dry and the colour has really really faded. It's shoulder length and don't really want it all cut off....

Hi febel, I use Bain Satin 1, I haven't tried any others. It's for normal to slightly dry hair.

OhRosalind · 25/08/2020 15:39

Agree with SunnySomer, a little goes a long way with Kerastase or Redken, their products last me forever and you can usually find them discounted online. They make such a difference to my hair. Aveda also has some good products.

OhRosalind · 25/08/2020 15:41

Kerastase do mini sizes which are a less risky way of seeing if a specific product works for your hair.

Laiste · 25/08/2020 22:33

I use kerastase.

After years of hoping from one to another brand this is the one i'm sticking with. I've been using it for over a year now. I get it on Amazon from who ever is selling it cheapest at the time. It's recently gone up again Angry

Good points:
My hair is the best it has been for years.
The smell is LOVELY and lasts (even DH asks what he can smell cos it's nice and he's not a smell noticer).
You only need a teeny tiny blob.

Bad points:
£££ (but a tiny blob is enough so ....)
You wont be able to go back to anything cheaper (i tried a cheaper brand recently (a 7 quid a bottle one so not that cheap) and it was horrible in comparison.

Which Kerastase would be be best for "fluffy" frizzy hair? It always looks good after a blow dry at the hairdressers but cant get the same effect at home - nowhere near lol.

Laiste · 26/08/2020 11:28

@superstar63 all the packaging is in french and i'll be totally honest with you - i researched which one i needed a year ago and found it and bought it, but now all i can tell you is i have the one in the cream coloured bottles and that's the one i buy BlushGrin

Enjoy! :)

Ive tried them all and I think Kevin Murphy is the best by far

OhRosalind · 26/08/2020 13:34

@superstar63 you can tell the website your hair type and needs and it will recommend stuff. I have frizz issues and I like the Discipline range - Bain fluididealiste and maskeratine.

LesLavandes · 26/08/2020 14:42

Klorane. French brand. It isn't expensive and has a shampoo for everything. Highly recommend
