I’ve used Boots BB cream for years (I’m 47) but I’m finding it’s just not enough.

I hate foundation and the whole cakey feel, so I’m going to go to a CC cream.

I’ve got the Boots No7 one but i don’t really rate it, it’s coverage is no better, yet it’s hard to blend!

I’m quite pale, I always look tired (children) and I do have a few age spots.

I just want to look brighter and dewy and just better but there are so many out there and reviews are so mixed.

I tried some Korean stuff but it was too chalky white on me and felt weird.

I’m tempted by Clinique but it’s a costly mistake to make and I’m pretty shit at matching cream to my skin tone, my BB cream is light/medium but in other brands that’s way too dark.

Please help!!

Did you try Eborium? It makes me look better! The Cc Makes me look brighter and the Bb more polished. Neither provides the miracle I need😂

I will have a look.

I think basically I’m trying to find the skin I had at 20 via a cream, which is always a recipe for disappointment 😂

Not a bb or cc cream, but as a lighter foundation for the mature woman I like Mac face and body foundation. They will give you a sample in a little pot so no commitment.
However the thing that has given me the brighter dewy glow you refer to is Hourglass Dim Light finishing powder. I am also pale and tired and this makes me look like like I’ve had 12 hours of sleep, 8 glasses of water and an appropriate amount of sun. It’s very expensive though.

Thanks, I will have a look into that!!

I think the problem with a lot of BB and CC creams is that they are just light - medium - dark which obviously won’t work for every shade and tone.

Foundations don’t have to feel heavy on your skin. In fact a liquid foundation suits maturer skin way better than those heavy, full coverage ones. A little concealer can be used anywhere you need some extra cover and an Illuminating primer can bring a bit of glow.

I’m very fair skinned and 😣 at the £££ I’ve spent over the years trying to find a foundation that suited so I know what you mean about risking an expensive mistake! There are lots of really good, affordable foundations available these days as the “drugstore” brands give the luxury ones a run for their money. I was stunned a few years ago to find that Revolutions foundation drops are a great match for me. It’s @ £8!

Other affordable brands worth a look imo are NYX, Revlon, Maybelline and believe it or not the Wet n Wild photofocus foundation. At least if you do come home with something that ends up not quite right, you haven’t wasted £30/£40+...

Another vote for MAAC face and body. It's buildable and initially very sheer and dewy.

applepineapple · 23/08/2020 15:43

Have you tried the No7 Hydraluminous foundation? It's very lightweight and glowy. If you already get on with No7 it's worth a try Smile

purplecorkheart · 23/08/2020 15:47

I got a clinque one that is great. However it came in a glass jar and it is hard to get the foundation out. Huge amount of waste. I use a mac that is great. However I have got some great foundations from Rimmel.

ninebiscuits · 23/08/2020 15:50

I agree with @apple the no7 hydraluminous range is lovely. I use the day moisturiser and foundation, and just use it with a little loose powder over the top.

Have you thought about changing your skincare rather than your BB cream? If you want to tackle the age spots and look more glowy/dewy you could look at skincare options to achieve these? I am 41 and finding I need to reduce my makeup as it isn't flattering to have heavy coverage on my ageing skin, so I'm trying to get the skin as good as possible so that I can use lighter products.

Hatemyhusband · 23/08/2020 16:49

Thanks everyone, I will have a look in boots tomorrow at their foundation, because I do like their BB cream.

I think I need several more hours of sleep a night to achieve what I want, but in the meantime I’m going to help it along.

I just look tired and rubbish atm
