Foundation matching for 13 year old dd

bendmeoverbackwards · 22/08/2020 18:44

My 13 year dd is getting into make up far faster than I would like but anyway.....

She would like a proper colour matched foundation but with current covid regulations I don’t know if any brands are doing this now.

Any recommendations that don’t cost the earth pls?

I had built up a number of foundation samples over the past few years (make up junkie) here & even though none were quite a perfect match for DD, it allowed me to have a good educated guess & with the help of
www.matchmymakeup.com/
I put it the foundation that was a near match for DD & went a shade darker with the Maybelline Fit Me Foundation.
It was on offer in Boots & when DD put it on it was a perfect match.
I suppose it also helps that I have a good eye for colour.

Another option (if you have £10
to spare) is to go to Primark & get a few of their foundations that look like they may colour match in the bottle. Primark foundations start from £2.50 & are really good.
Another thing to consider is that foundation colours are similar to paint colours as in they are always slightly darker than the label on the tin/colour in the tube or bottle.

I once looked at that foundation match website (or something similar) and amongst the matching ones (I am warm Ivory), one company suggested Cappuchino! Surely that would be too dark (unless they were going by the froth!) . Needless to say I did not bother with that foundation!

I can agree with you about Primark foundation. It is very good.

Unless your girl has a lot to cover up I think that a BB cream may be better - Garnier, Nivea, NYX etc

LulworthBlues · 23/08/2020 07:53

I wouldn't have thought foundation was appropriate at 13. BB or tinted moisturiser?

Cakestandkitchen · 23/08/2020 07:59

OP didn’t ask if it was appropriate.

Boots no 7 have a colour match thing however, any of the big counters will match if budget allows. Failing that a trip to boots but I’d suspect all of the testers have been removed now.

What about body shop?

BillywilliamV · 23/08/2020 08:07

I wouldn't bother, if you get the right colour she'll just wear too much.
They all go a weird colour for a year or two, its a rite of passage. Rather at 13 than at 16, save your cash!

VanCleefArpels · 23/08/2020 09:17

If she is Caucasian Try something like Erborian CC (spendy) or L’Oreal CC Cest Magique (budget) which magically turn into your own skin shade on application. They are dead easy to apply and give good light coverage

GlassOfPimms · 23/08/2020 09:35

My 13 year old DD loves make up and watches endless YouTube tutorials on it! She now prefers using concealer and banana baking powder rather than foundation. Much as it's a shame she feels the need to wear any make up at all, the effect is quite subtle and she doesn't look too coated in it!

I like the sound of the CC recommendations @VanCleefArpels - might look into those too!

Sayitagainwhydontyou · 23/08/2020 09:38

Jesus. What on earth does she need foundation for at 13? I'd be staying way out of it if i were you OP - let her spend her own money on makeup of her choice, rather than starting her on an expensive, appearance-focused path so young.

bendmeoverbackwards · 23/08/2020 11:09

Thank you, as I have said, I'm not overly keen on her using it so young, she is the youngest of 3 girls and my older two didn't get into make up till much later and even now they don't use much.

I have suggested a tinted moisturiser or BB/CC cream but she would prefer a light coverage foundation. She has beautiful skin and I tell her so all the time but she is self conscious about her spots.

I am definitely not encouraging it and I don't think expensive brands are appropriate for a 13 year old but I am treating all my dds to a present over the summer and this is what my youngest would like.

DD had TO as her first foundation, cheap as chips. Lots of swatches online.

bendmeoverbackwards · 23/08/2020 14:33

What’s TO?

The Ordinary Smile

bendmeoverbackwards · 24/08/2020 13:13

Thank you @scorpio ideally I wanted to find somewhere we could go rather than order online.

Actually I've just found a branch of The Ordinary quite near me, I will take her there. Foundations are less than £6, thank you Smile

I took my DD to SpaceNK for colour matching, I said I didn’t want anything with too heavy coverage and she got BECCA Skin Love Foundation.
