Are facials worth the money?

I want to start taking batter care of my skin. It is really starting to age and I want to do my best to tackle it now that I’m single again.

Are facials worth the money? If so, how often? I don’t want to do anything too crazy/fancy, just regular facials.

I have a Dermalogica prescription facial once a month.

My skin is good and looks amazing afterwards, but I'll admit I go mostly for the enjoyment of it. It's so relaxing. It's the thing I missed most before beauticians were allowed to resume them.

@DannyGlickWindowTapping

Thank you! I looked it up and the reviews are awesome! I use Image SPF 50 right now but I’d be open to trying something new especially since it’s a once a day application.

@h1987

Thanks. I just looked it up. It’s very expensive...I might save up for it though if you think it’s worth it.

@AuntieMarys

Y’see I love the idea of having facials that often! I can really see how good my sister’s skin looks post-facial. I imagine since you’ve stuck with them that you see the benefits too.

Pipandmum · 23/08/2020 15:25

I get regular facials, and just had my first one since beauticians could reopen. She had everything clean and wore a mask.
Why I think there are some for sure that do more for your skin, I do look at them as more relaxing and pampering, which is, to me, just as important as any benefits for my skin.

@LouisBalfour

Sounds lush! I don’t care what anyone says - having a facial once a month can only help your face!

Stillseparatedat41 · 23/08/2020 15:26

@Pipandmum

I’d imagine it does both - thoroughly cleanses your skin and gives you a break and some time out too.

I haven't had one for years. I tried various different types and found they aggravated my normally pretty calm skin, gave me spots and made no discernible positive difference to my skin at all. I also don't find them particularly enjoyable. I'd rather have a body massage any day! The things that noticeably improve my skin are drinking plenty of water, eating less sugar, not drinking alcohol, plus double cleansing (with nothing fancy, just Aldi's Cleanse and Polish dupe, followed by a gentle soap).

@lazylinguist

In terms of relaxation, I agree - a massage would do it for me every time! Double cleansing does make a huge difference - my skin looks way better since I’ve started really cleaning it properly but I’m also trying to have a lighter touch with foundation.

I had one amazing Image facial once and I had a dodgy one with a different brand another time - it was too deep and I came out in a rash. My ex said ‘what’s wrong with your face?’ which wasn’t what I wanted to hear after spending £75 for the pleasure! Grin

I'd rather spend the money on some high quality products to use daily. I'm quite partial to the murad retinol and vita c ranges.

Carycy · 23/08/2020 17:19

I’d rather spend the money on well researched products and have a good regular skin care routine. I don’t trust most beauticians as they tend to be tied to a brand. Last time I had one I reacted to the products they used.

@CloudsCanLookLikeSheep
Good point. I haven't tried the Murad retinol and vita C ranges. I'll look into them. Thanks for the tip.

@Carycy
Well fair point. I said upthread how I came out in a bad rash after one particular facial.

Carycy · 23/08/2020 22:21

Op. Talking about powder spf. I use brush on block to top up. It’s spf 30. I need to remember to use it more. I love it for using on my kids to as a quick top up especially on their hairlines.

Stillseparatedat41 · 23/08/2020 22:35

Thanks. The one recommended upthread was very pricey. What brand do you use?
