How to figure out what foundation colour? (Pic)

My (early 50s) face is so uneven/red - there isn't the equivalent colour on the "find your shade" pictures.

Where do I start?! I've tried the green-tinted moisturisers before and none of them have made any difference, so do I just need to go for heavier coverage, like ELDW? Match to where I'm not so red?

Think I'd be tempted to colour match with neck or chest.

That was quite a shock, I thought it was a picture of me Shock. I have the same skin tone and issues with redness.

I have found that using a facial fake tan (I use St Tropez Purity) evens out my skin tone and then I use a primer (Benefit Porefessional or Vita Liberata beauty blur) then mix some liquid bronzer with my foundation.

I tried using heavier coverage (ELDW and Revlon Colorstay) but it looked like a mask, lighter more natural foundation mixed with bronzer worked much better for me.

I know a lot of people rate IT cosmetics CC cream and it has great reviews and is supposed to cover redness really well www.boots.com/it-cosmetics-your-skin-but-better-CC-spf-50-10251002 I don't like it, it sat in my pores and made them look huge but QVC sell it and you can send it back even if it's used so if you want to try it.

I now use rosalique makeup. It is green but blends to skin tone, covers the red perfectly and helps to calm the uneven tone as well. It's been a great find for me as I have tried just about every foundation there is.

I've had Rosalique ads come up on my FB recently ... I'll give it a try 👍🏼

Is it the Purity spray you use on your face? I'm a little wary of it irritating my skin - some days even putting moisturiser on makes it go redder 🙄 Maybe my skincare routine is where I need to start ...

Hi OP. Would you try The Ordinary foundation? I have both the coverage and serum and find them good for covering the red. You can get ones for pink undertones in your skin and they are really cheap

Absolutely - I've seen loads of threads about The Ordinary and they seem to get really good reviews. Maybe that's the place to start - I've have a look, thank you.

No bother. I'd be fairly red on the nose and cheeks and I find it really good. I use a setting powder (RCMA translucent powder) over it and it still looks good after a gym session.

I have in the last month of so started using face theory products and redness definitely decreasing.

GreyishDays · 22/08/2020 16:23

I match to the side of my chin. Seems a very un-red area.

Imtoooldforallthis · 22/08/2020 18:54

I would definately try the ordinary serum foundation, I try others but always come back to it.

MaverickDanger · 22/08/2020 19:04

Match to your collar bone and then you won’t have issues with face and neck not blending.

Pancakeorcrepe · 22/08/2020 19:37

It Cosmetics also do a foundation specifically for redness, apart from their CC cream.
You can try to match to your jaw or neckline but beware because if you go too high coverage, this may lead to the mask effect someone mentioned.
You may have to be prepared to use a primer/ colour corrector and then foundation on top of that.
I would make sure you’re doing everything you can to heal your skin, get some really good quality advice, cleansers and moisturiser, and not go too overboard with foundation. Do you think the blotchiness is part of your healthy skin tone, have you always had it, or has it appeared later in life? There is a chance you can reverse some of it.

emsyj37 · 22/08/2020 19:44

Niacinamide serum has really taken a lot of the redness out of my skin. Worth a try. The Ordinary or Revolution do a really cheap serum, worked great for me.

GroupSects · 22/08/2020 19:45

Clinique Redness Solutions foundation is fab. I use Ivory and it’s yellow toned which is good for toning down redness. It looks more natural than the It Cosmetics Bye Bye Redness and lasts longer and has better coverage than It Cosmetics CC Cream both of which I previously used.
I’ve also tried ELDW but it’s not for me, it’s ok if your skin is oily but mine is too dry and it sits in my pores and goes cakey and patchy no matter how I apply it so I gave up.
