What are your best trainers for walking?

Can you please recommend your best trainers for walking? I've had to stop Couch 2 5K as it's was making my chronic pain condition worse, so I at least need to focus on doing some regular long walks for exercise.

I have decent Mizuno running shoes, but want to hold off using those for walking, as I hope to pick up running again in the longer term.

Cheers!

I recently got some Merrells from Sports Direct that are very comfy for walking ... covered 12km yesterday with ease. Can’t remember the style name but they’re shades of dark grey, not too chunky 👍

Salomon, really comfortable and good for any terrain.

Thanks, I've not looked at either of these brands before

I have some Reeboks and some Scechers, both are good.

Skechers.

I'd recommend Merrell. Go to an outdoors shop and try some different ones on, e.g. Tiso.

Merrell are great, I had some black slip on ones that I wore for work and could walk all day in. Also like sketchers Gorun trainers.

I live in Brooks (but have over pronating ankles). Good socks are a must too.

I’m hypermobile so have a lot of pain in my feet I wear Asics running trainers because they have different stability levels to support and hold the foot and also have different shoes for different pronation.

If you’re walking, get some proper walking shoes. I picked up some Salomon’s at an outlet store and they have been excellent. Go to a Blacks or Cotswold or Go Outdoors and try lots of different ones on. I like Merrells to look at but they don’t fit my feet properly. I’ve had Scarpa and Meindl, and I love Salewa but they are hard to find in this country. I like Skechers but not for proper walking - not enough support.

You can buy cheaper brands, but generally you get what you pay for. I always buy waterproof ones, but if you’re a fair weather walker you can save a few £, and they tend to feel lighter.

Asics are excellent. I wear one of their stability shoes for everything fitness related (can’t remember which...maybe the Gel Kayano?)

Elouera · 23/08/2020 07:42

My ankles over pronate (roll in). I went to runners need where they film you on a treadmill to check. I have asics gel kayano 26 which are great. No more rolling in ankles and very comfy.

Solomon and merrell are both better for narrow feet. In asics I go up half a size, and from reviews I think this is common. Berghaus good for wide feet but not as good quality as merrell imo.
