Laser hair removal on bikini line - regrets?

curlytops21 · 21/08/2020 07:16

Hello

I'll soon be starting a course of laser hair removal and wondered how far people have gone with laser in the bikini area? I guess I'm wondering whether most people go the whole hog and if so, has anyone regretted getting, for example, a full hollywood?

I do tend to get this when i am waxed but i am also wondering whether there's any chance i might regret this later. I'm not sure i would but just want to hear any thoughts and advice from anyone who has already done this.

Also, I never shave down there (always wax) as the regrowth stubble and itch is horrendous, but will have to do so before my treatments, so any advice would be welcome.

Thanks!

No regrets. It is life changing and some of the best money I've spent.

I took their advice though and did hollywood x 4 and bikini only x4 as they advised totally bare when older isnt the most flattering.
If i want a wax now it barely hurts and I'm still always "swimsuit ready"

The stubble wont be stubble as it frazzles and falls out but aloe vera gel helps. Impotantly! Shave as close to the app time as possible don't do it the night before.

curlytops21 · 21/08/2020 07:36

Thanks LadyF! Can i ask what you mean by the x 4? Ie what did they actually recommend?

Also, all the advice says to shave the day before, which is making me squirm a bit, but you think it's ok to do the same day?

And when you say there's no stubble - did you find that from the first session or did that come later?

Thanks so much for your help.

Bump - anyone else?

I’ve had bikini done and it’s fab - can wear a swimsuit no problem. Aesthetically I think a Hollywood would be better, but I’m fairly sure I could not have handled the pain! So the bikini was a good compromise

feesh · 21/08/2020 20:42

I had all mine off a few years ago in the Middle East - they remove everything there even if you protest! I do majorly regret it as it looks bloody awful, especially with the very sparse and random regrowth!

Definitely get it done as it’s life changing, but leave a strip or something.

Bluewavescrashing · 21/08/2020 20:45

Lumea is a good compromise.

Separatedat41 · 21/08/2020 20:47

How on earth did ye handle the pain of laser for a Hollywood wax? I’d love to but definitely not brace enough!

feesh · 21/08/2020 22:19

It was painful as fuck, I’m not going to lie. But actually my legs were even more painful! And I’ve not had a wax since, so it was well worth it (just the odd whizz over with an epilator).

Thanks everyone. This is really helpful. I'm definitely getting the laser done - i was just unsure how far to go with the bikini line.
Excited now as I'm really expecting this to change my life!

Good for you! You’re brave. I’ve been saving up to get my legs done but I don’t think I could handle the Hollywood to be honest. Best of luck with it. OP

Martinisarebetterdirty · 22/08/2020 08:48

I just did a bikini line - which is great but I wish I’d gone higher up (not all off) as the same price. Legs were more painful for me and armpits the least. The first couple of sessions are the worst after that some of the roots have died or gone to sleep (whatever happens) and it gets less painful. I’m about 6 years along, my bikini line is still perfect and no regrowth, I should probably have a couple more sessions on my legs and armpits though (I had an extra 3 sessions on my armpits at the time too).

Personally I wouldn’t take it all off - you might want variety at a later stage!

Martinisarebetterdirty · 22/08/2020 08:48

Oh and it does change your life - wish I’d done it years earlier.

curlytops21 · 22/08/2020 11:59

Thanks everyone - you've all made me sure I'm doing the right thing. It's not even that expensive at the moment - got a great deal with a national chain so 6 sessions on underarm and (any) bikini for only £174! If anyone wants to know more, just pm me.

Late to the party sorry!

I meant 4 sessions (x 4) i had 8 in total and approx 90% reduction on bikini line and 60% elsewhere
And yes you can shave immediately before it makes the treatment more effective.
Other advice: Wear "big knickers" not a thong, Take ibuprofen ann hour before and buy aloe vera gel.

When i say no stubble i mean the hair doesnt keep growing as it is killed. So after a fortnight the folllicle ejects a small bit of hair maybe 0.5cm long thats a bit frazzled looking

I have a lumea for my legs it is "fine" bit no where near as powerful as the professional machines.

Ooh thanks so much. That all makes sense. I've got aloe vera and will definitely take pain relief beforehand. Funnily enough, i was looking at the lumea last night as i think i would possibly consider getting this for my legs.

I'm going to take your advice and not go for a full hollywood anyway, so thanks for your help. Will go for something in between.

Done it years ago, best decision ever, used to get horrible ingrowns with wax. Now just do touch ups about once every couple of years.

Aria20 · 24/08/2020 09:55

I had 4 sessions and unfortunately had to stop due to pregnancy and then couldn't afford it as stopped working. Sadly, you wouldn't even know I'd had it done so I don't know if that's because I didn't get the full course or I went to a dodgy salon or it just didn't work for me?! I'm not that hairy tho as I'm quite fair lol. If I had the money I'd get it done again though!

YourObedientServant · 24/08/2020 10:01

I just had it tidied up, so just the actual bikini line if you see what I mean. I don't think completely bare or a strip looks very good (just my personal preference!) It grew back about 50-70% over around 10 years so I bought a Philips Lumea to use at home and it's been good. The most life changing for me was underarms though.

MorrisZapp · 24/08/2020 10:07

I had a lumea but it didn't work for me at all. Made no difference on my bikini line. Would professional lasering work? I'm fair but not that fair, my bikini line is far from pale.

FizzyPink · 24/08/2020 10:10

I had Hollywood done with 8 sessions about 4 years ago. To be honest I would say there’s only about 50% of it gone and I still have to wax regularly. It also grows back pretty patchy. I do however think the girl I had wasn’t great as once she wasn’t there and I had her boss instead who was definitely a lot more thorough! This was through Skn and wasn’t cheap.

I do probably need to do a couple of tops ups each year but I think if I was going to do it again I’d just buy the Lumea.

YourObedientServant · 24/08/2020 10:16

Professional lasering could work MorrisZap. There was a difference between the professional one (which hurt like F and really, really got rid of hair) to the Lumea which works for me but doesn't hurt and is definitely less... Strong? Doesn't last as long.

It's an expensive thing to try if it doesn't work that we'll though!

YourObedientServant · 24/08/2020 10:16

Well*

Fishyfinger · 24/08/2020 10:29

I had laser on my bikini line (just the actual bikini line) and underarms - I would say it was 15/16 years ago?

I get a few stragglers growing back on my bikini line - but unless I am wearing a swimsuit I don't care. Prior to a beach holiday I might epilate the few down the sides at the front - or just pack a disposable razor. Underarms are pretty perfect - there are a few very fine, fair hairs which laser can't treat but again if I feel they will be on show a lot I will epilate of whisk over with a razor.

I will say be sure you are getting laser - not IPL. I tried a course of IPL a few years back to see if I could eliminate the new growth but it did nothing.

curlytops21 · 24/08/2020 20:06

Hi everyone, just wanted to report back as I've just had my first session.

It was definitely medical grade laser they use and i am happy to confirm that it was painless. All i could feel was the ice cold air blowing on my skin at the same time.

So far, so good!
