Very dehydrated skin

I think this the problem. My skin feels tight especially since having to wear a mask most of the day and probably some pre-existing dehydration. Cheeks especially.
I’ve been using the Clinique moisture surge which has helped a bit but does not stop the tightness in the afternoon. I drink plenty of water. I have had some nasty breakouts on one side of my face (I have now started to change my pillowcase). The moisture surge has helped with makeup not sinking into my pores so I do think I’m dehydrated and not dry.
I find that other gel type products are not sufficiently moisturising but oilier creams don’t help with dehydration.

I would love some suggestions, thank you!

Moisture surge is expensive with no Particular outstanding ingredients
you tried Aveeno it’s really moisturising
Or try dipobase , cream e45

I was told by beautician that I had dehydrated skin. She recommended a ££££ facial oil.

But I generally use either Waitrose Pure facial oil or Sweet Almond oil from Holland and Barrett. I try to wait a while before going to bed after I've applied it.so it doesn't end up over pillows.

I’ve been washing my face with a cleansing oil for the last 4 years and it’s made such a difference to my skin. I apply it in the morning and leave it for a few mins then wash it off with a wet face cloth and apply a moisturizer. Once a week I use an exfoliating wash.

Eucerin Aquaporin - the Rich one

Blahblahblahyadayadayada · 20/08/2020 20:51

ComeOnGordon what oil do you use for cleansing?
I’ve used the rich Eucerin Aquaporin and it didn’t help a great deal but was not a bad cream. I’ve used diprobase and keep it handy in case of an episode of sore skin . It’s moisturising but not hydrating and I find this to be the case with Aveeno. Again, there’s are inoffensive creams that I have at home all the time. The Aveeno I find dries down quite a bit but doesn’t stop the tightness.
I’ve used a generous amount of CeraVe tonight.

CeraVe is good
Cleansing oil I use superfacialist it’s a great brand

cicatrix1 · 20/08/2020 21:08

I use aveeno blue or green tube depending how wet i want my skin....
I personally do not find HA does any more than my moisturiser.

Blahblahblahyadayadayada · 20/08/2020 21:11

These are good suggestions, thank you!
I’ve seen the superficiality cleansing oil so often in Boots.

Super facialist It literally melts make up away . Good brand

Blahblahblahyadayadayada · 20/08/2020 21:21

Like the sound of that. I currently use the Clinique Take the day off balm for sunscreen and makeup.
Funnily enough, I used to use a Latina Pure Melt gel year ago and loved using it in the morning. My skin was good then!

OP - Ive used lots of different ones over the years (not in the UK) but recently been using origins and really like it. I’m so grateful to the friend who recommended this method to me - my lines were getting more noticeable and I feel they’ve really slowed down since I started cleansing with oil. It’s one of my favourite things in the day to rub it into my face

middleager · 20/08/2020 21:25

My skin was like this. Have found Cerave to be good and Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair serum, though it's too pricey and I need a dupe if anyone knows of one!

OhRosalind · 20/08/2020 21:38

Hyaluronic acid is amazing for dehydrated skin. Apply to damp skin and seal with oil or moisturiser. I have super sensitive skin but It doesn’t break me out.

SentientAndCognisant · 20/08/2020 21:41

My other go to brand is the ordinary, sali Hughes also raves about them

Blahblahblahyadayadayada · 20/08/2020 21:56

@middleager, I had a sample of Advanced night repair so I used that and a generous amount of CeraVe cream and my skin feels lovely right now. Might try this in the morning under SPF.

I have the most pathetic skin barrier and the most sensitive face known to man. The slightest upset in its delicate comfort zone and my skin dehydrates and I gain 12 million wrinkles and literal agony from tightness, so you have my sympathy! My preventative and also my cure is aveeno mixed with a squirt of cerave morning and evening, overlayed with the white nivea for dry skin, sealed in in the eve with petroleum jelly. In the day I also use nivea sensitive for men post shave balm over the top in the day, as a make up primer if I'm wearing makeup but also when Im not as it's lovely and cooling and soothing and hydrating. I'm also a fan of Dr organic snail gel face cream for extra flair ups, but can't use it daily as it gives me spots after a few uses. It's very replenishing and calming though!

shereebobbins · 20/08/2020 23:02

Paulas Choice hydrating toner worked for me. I pour a small amount in my hands and pat it on rather than using cotton wool. Last ages that way. Also Hada labo in the gold bottle just before moisturiser.
It cured my flaking dehydrated skin in two or three days.
Hydroluron serum is also a game changer, and easier to get hold of than the Hado Labo.

Blahblahblahyadayadayada · 21/08/2020 13:03

@Galaxxy is the white nivea the nivea soft stuff?

What kind of SPF are people using- I tend to use a mineral one due to road aces tendencies but perhaps the zinc is drying out my skin?

That's positive.
The Estee Lauder is so damned expensive. I find serum is good for my thirsty skin, just need an alternative!
