Violet on the greys - is it feasible?

Please help! My brown hair has ever increasing greys and I'm bored of my current solution. I use a vaguely eco /gentle home dye every month or so in an attempt to cover the greys. I choose the closest colour to my own - a mid ash brown. But there is a reddish sheen to my hair regardless, that you notice when it catches the light. And the greys only take some of the dye so they look more like blond highlights but not in a good way. I tend to just touch up the roots because I'd need two packs to get the lengths and the underneath but I think that's adding to the overall crapness as the natural colour underneath isn't red tinged.

Would a purple shampoo cancel the red sheen? What I'd really love would be to ditch the brown dye altogether and use a toner that actually coloured the greys, in a violet or pink colour. But is that actually feasible or something only a salon could do? (Can't afford, sadly).

If it makes a difference, my hair is thick, coarse, and wavy on a good day, otherwise superfrizz. I did try letting go of the dye at the start of lockdown. My friend looks stunning with her white streaks on dark hair. But light grey streaks on mid brown just made me look washed out, especially as my eyes are grey too.

I used a Morrocan oil hair colour mask in burgundy ( which came out pink) but only stuck to my greys and took ages to wash out.
My photo does have an Instagram filter on it, however it is closer to how it looked tgan how an unfiltered photo came out.
At the moment I have got a L'Oreal toner on in a blonde, which I like better

Ooh I really like that! I wonder if it's OK for it to go on dyed hair... Although if you're saying it only shows on your greys then hopefully it doesn't matter about the brown dye.

I don't know if it should be used on dyed hair. You could do a patch test on it maybe?
I got the mask colour in a sachet from Lookfantastic for around £6, it has a screw cap so you can use more than once!

Cheers! I'll look it up.

Look at the bleach london shampoo and conditioner, i use a smoky grey on mine and it deposits a nice smokey grey on my beigeish grey, they do pink, lilac, peach etc and is easier and nicer thanusing an actual dye, the colour deposits and gives a nice effect.

I have dark brown (and grey hair). I've been using a blonde ash dye on my hair since lockdown and it does a really good job of colouring greys but only slightly lightening my natural hair. I'm using majirel 8.31 with a 30 vol developer, but now my hair has got rid of the darker dye I used pre-lockdown, I'll probably return to 20 Bol.

Thanks. Both interesting ideas and I've seen bleach london on local boots so that might be my first port of call.

Leave it in for 10 mins, let me know if it works for you.

I use it on my grey hair. Mine is more blue violet. I have quite a bit of grey hair and it makes it look quite blue. I quite like it. My hair is grey to my ears with very little in the way of dark brown now but its not all the same colour of grey so it looks varied. Try it. I just use Touch of silver by provoke. Its the brightening purple hair mask. Its meant to neutralise brassy tones but it really does give it a blue hue. I work in a school and the kids asked me if i dyed my hair blue!!

It does dye your hands temporarily and don't be afraid of the colour when you see it. Only leave it on as directed unless you want it to be really blue! It really softens the hair too. Some blue shampoos can make your hair quite dry.
It washes out after a couple of washes so no real commitment.

I am growing in my silver hair btw. [From dyed]
