Am I a slob?

I have been WFH for the past 16 years. I absolutely love it. No longer spending 15 hours a week commuting, I can get up later, when I'm done I'm already home, and during the day I can take care of quick chores like doing the laundry so they don't pile up before the weekend.

However I wonder if it's made me lazy. While I do get dressed (i.e. I don't work in my PJs or in lounging around clothes) and sometimes wear heels even just to stay in, I don't wear make up unless I'm leaving the house (although now that video calls are more frequent I have a tube of MAC's Russian Red on my desk, ready to put some on before turning my camera on). I do put jewellery on and spritz some perfume on too.

When it comes to my hair (long) I however just twist it and put it up (especially now it's warm). I am useless at doing hair I should say. But now I don't even think about it - I brush it and put it up. It does NOT look good that way.

So I'd like to know what other people who WFH do - how far they go with hair and make up when they are not leaving the house. Am I a slob?

No, you’re not a slob. I work from home a lot and I always do my hair and make up the same whether I am in the house or going out. I don’t wear loads of makeup but I feel nicer with it on.

However, I am naturally scruffy in terms of my clothes, so I don’t think I ever look that smart even when I go into the office.

If you’re happy and presentable enough not to scare clients away, who cares? 🤷‍♀️

CatBatCat · 18/08/2020 17:50

You're dressed and presentable I don't see how that makes you a slob.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 18/08/2020 18:48

I don’t usually work from home, but have since March. I am not wearing work clothes, but do shower, wash/dry hair, do makeup, and put on nice clothes every day. I knew it would be bad for my mental health not to.

You don’t sound like a slob at all, OP. At weekends I often knock about in my pyjamas, have a long bath mid-afternoon, then put on fresh pyjamas. That is slobbish!

SunshineChatter · 19/08/2020 15:06

Weekends are understandable. Although I actually make more of an effort then because I leave the house!

WFH since March. If I'm not wearing PJs and I've brushed my teeth I consider it a win at the moment. Some days I wear makeup and nice clothes - if the fancy takes me.

Thank you ladies for making me feel better. Today I'm wearing jeans, trainers a cute Superdry T-shirt and a fleece. Jewellery and fragrance but no make up. My hair is held back from my face with a clip. Glad I don't need to pop out!

@Judy, that sounds bliss!

AdoraBell · 20/08/2020 22:16

Definitely not a slob.

Bluewavescrashing · 20/08/2020 22:18

If you shower regularly, wear clean clothes and generally look after yourself, and it sounds like you do, you're not a slob. Why fuss about wearing uncomfortable clothes to WFH? Being more comfortable is a perk- embrace it!

MistyMinge2 · 20/08/2020 22:29

No, not a slob at all. This is one of the things I've liked about working from home. Not that mad rush of getting ready in the morning. I've hardly touched my hair dryer since March, although that's changed after my really shit haircut, and my skin is better for wearing hardly any make up. I just put on the first things I grab rather than numerous outfit changes because I don't like anything. Setting the alarm for 6.30 and putting more workish clothes on is going to come hard when I go back.

Oly4 · 20/08/2020 22:32

WFH for 12 years, only wear make up when I go out, stylish joggers/jeans and jumpers to work in. I don’t consider myself a slob! I shower daily

Etinox · 20/08/2020 22:37

Meh
I’ve woh all week and worn the same dress 😳 I did wash it yesterday.
Admittedly different sites and mainly to wind DD up who I saw Monday and after work one night.

MoltonSilver · 20/08/2020 23:09

You're not a slob. You just need a better haircut - one that you like.

CherryPavlova · 20/08/2020 23:13

Not having to put on a dress and jacket, not wearing tights, not wearing makeup is a real bonus of Coronavirus.

My son sent a picture of himself in military uniform above the waist, laptop on his ironing board and shorts below, because it was so hot. Very funny picture but also much more comfortable than ‘top to toe’ uniform.
Not slobby at all. PJs on a work call might be a step too far but hair not blow dried? Absolutely fine.

Passthecake30 · 21/08/2020 07:58

I’ve definitely embraced the scruffy look for wfh. I’ve alternated the same 2 pairs of joggers and 5 dark Primark tshirts and have loved not stressing about what to wear. I’m v tall and struggle finding clothes, so this is so much easier. I haven’t worn makeup since March. I feel cosy and comfortable in my own skin, in my own home. If that makes me a slob, then so be it.

BlusteryShowers · 21/08/2020 08:13

I don't think it's "slobby" to wear clean, comfortable clothes in your own home. I don't see the point in getting dressed up to sit alone in my own house, unless it helps you mentally or to "get in the zone" for work, which is fair enough.

If I'm just in the house I tend to wear leggings and a t shirt and socks. It's not stylish but it is practical and comfortable.

itallwentwrongat30 · 21/08/2020 08:30

Definitely not slobbish - I have been working from home since March. Some days the notion to make an effort takes me for some random reason and I get dressed - but most days, like today, it is leggings or joggers - no make up which has helped my skin and as a pp said I haven't blow dried my hair much since March

SunshineChatter · 25/08/2020 10:32

I have a video call today and the thought of having to put full make up on is so unwelcome. Or, rather, the thought of having to take it all off tonight....
