Advice please
My daughter who is 18 over the last couple of years has suffered from acne. She has had a course of Epiduo and now on tablets combined with the pill.
Her skin is 99% clear now and looks good.
However recently whenever she goes out and uses her normal makeup she finds her skin flares up after with a few spots and blemishes that take approx a week to settle down again.
She does use BB cream and concealer at every opportunity but in her words it's the 'big night out' makeup that she can't get right.
Has anyone got any advice on foundation makes that may help
Thank you ❤️

Has she tried mineral foundation?

Bare Minerals is probably the best known and there's Lily Lolo .

Main problem is getting the right shade , there are so many then you need to know if the skin is pink toned , yellow toned, cool, warm.

I bought a kit from QVC (bought Medium as it was the nearest to my skin tone) not a 100% match .
You need ery little , layer and buff

I did cover up a wax 'tasche red lip with the concealer though, that was excellent .

Thanks I did say to her in wonder if Bare Minerals' will come up in discussion. We are aware of it but never purchased it yet

Are her brushes clean?.

Is she removing it properly or going to bed in it?.

Oh god Yes - she has since this all started. She has changed diet, cleaned her brushes - everything!

Is she using a primer? I have found the silicone based ones cause break outs.

Laura geller makeup is very good, I find bare minerals super cakes, there is also a TSV on QVC coming up on the 27th August so there should be a kit that she can try, at QVC you can return it if it doesn’t agree with your skin and the TSV’s are always good value

Super cakey !

I found out after years of trial and error that many products contain an ingredient my skin won't tolerate. For me it is stearic acid. Other people can't handle anything with coconut oil, silicones, or citrus, or other things.

I got into reddit's skincare addiction subreddit which helped a lot with figuring this out.

Make sure make you brushes are cleaned every time she uses them.

She should only touch her face with clean hands.

Mineral make up is good. Bare minerals do different ones.

I also like Laura Geller.

Primer might help.

Maybe she could try going without make up if she is comfortable with that.

I suffered acne for years when I was younger but I found a normal, lightweight foundation was better for my skin than a thick high coverage one, then use concealer where needed. Keeping foundation on all day would also flare my skin up so taking my make up off soon as I could at home or if off work, cleansing my skin a few times a day helps stopped the oiliness causing spots.

I've found this one doesn't break me out www.boots.com/yves-saint-laurent-le-teint-touche-eclat-foundation-30ml-10211732 As @Crystalspider says its good to use a light foundation and then do specific concealing where needed- it looks more natural and also means there's less on the skin which is helpful when trying to avoid congestion. I find using a glycolic acid toner after cleansing but before any acne gels helps as well- it might be helpful on days she's been wearing foundation. I just use it the acne prone parts of my face, the one from The Ordinary is good. Like @anothernewone I also find primers with silicone in them can break me out, so that might be something to be aware of too.

If it’s only the “big night out” makeup that’s causing the issue then it’s something related to the night out.

Either insufficient cleansing (likely, when you’re tired and want to go to bed you're not as careful, however careful you think you are)

Or something she’s eating/drinking during the night out? Not enough water, reacting to sugars or flavourings in drinks etc?

If she does a full face of night out makeup during the day and cleanses/skincare like she does normally does she still break out?

It could also be the length of time she’s wearing it for - if she goes from normal day makeup to night out makeup then potentially her face has had makeup on for a lot longer than normal?

To be honest it could also just be her normal skin type, I know my skin breaks out if I have a run of late nights/drinking more/eating rich foods. The week after I come back from holiday is awful for my skin!
