Soolantra

I’ve taken (on and off for many years) Lymecycline with varying degrees of success for my skin. Following on from reading various threads here, I’ve got myself a prescription for soolantra and have been using it every night for nearly a month. Although there seems to be a bit of an improvement in my skin, it’s not the vast change I was hoping for.
However, can I please ask how much of the cream you use? Do you coat the skin or just use a small amount? For the last two nights I thought I’d put too much on, but this morning I think I can see a small improvement. Or am I just trying to convince myself...?!

I usually use a tiny amount on my nose as that’s the only area I get the rosacea. The first time I used it it cleared it in 2-3 weeks, now it doesn’t seem to be helping as much. I have the spotty type of rosacea, is that the type you have?

prettygreen · 16/08/2020 13:28

I used it fairly minimally, just on the affected areas and it worked pretty quickly. It only works on a certain kind of rosacea though, I think. Maybe it's not the right thing for yours? I hope you can get it sorted - it's a miserable thing to have x

I used to put a dot on my cheeks, nose, forehead and chin and rub in so I have a thin layer all over my face. The evening is the most important time. I noticed an improvement after a few months.

My triggers are spicy food and red wine.

Livedandlearned · 16/08/2020 13:40

I also have the spotty type although saying that, a red patch on one cheek appears occasionally.

AgnesNaismith · 16/08/2020 13:41

Yes, it works a dream for me! I dot pea sized amounts on forehead, both cheeks and chin and spread in a thin layer at night time - that is when the demodex come out to be little fuckwits.

Have only used for a week at a time as necessary but I keep it until needed again. So thankful it has been approved in this country, in America it’s around $370 a tube!

You can also ask to try azelaic acid OP. It may work better for you and it is available with prescription.

sammylady37 · 16/08/2020 14:20

I get through a tube in 6 weeks.

Sarahlouiseis33 · 16/08/2020 14:32

@sammylady37 do you have the spotty type of rosacea?

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 16/08/2020 14:54

Thanks everyone. I have it on my nose mainly - the whole bottom half of my nose is bright red and with juicy yellow spots on and off. It’s as delightful as it sounds.
I’m trying to work out if a ‘pea size’ is a fat garden size or petits pois one.
Maybe I’ve been using too little, or as I fear, it’s just not going to work for me.

I agree with PP perhaps try azaleic acid. You can get it online through the Boots acne clinic. It’s known to be effective for the pustules caused by rosacea xx

nahthanksimfine · 16/08/2020 15:47

Does the doctor have to prescribe this??

RD15 · 16/08/2020 15:54

It is a prescription treatment but you can get it via the Boots online acne clinic. I paid £16 for mine xx

Sarahlouiseis33 · 16/08/2020 16:18

@Justfivemoreminutesplease - it might just take longer to take effect. I’m hoping this is the case for me too. It worked so well before and I’d tried most other topicals & months of antibiotics. I’m
going to try using more x

AgnesNaismith · 16/08/2020 16:19

@Justfivemoreminutesplease are you sure it’s rosacea???

sammylady37 · 16/08/2020 17:05

@Sarahlouiseis33 not the spotty type, the flushing and redness and thread veins type. I get laser treatment for the veins and the worst of the flushing. The soolantra helps the baseline redness- I will notice if I go 4 or 5 nights without applying it.

Justfivemoreminutesplease · 16/08/2020 20:46

You’re got me thinking now Agnes as I’ve had it for so long. The dr always said it was. I’ve looked for some photos of me (/my nose) but hate having my face photographed close up so this is was the best I could come up with 😝 this is a month plus from applying the cream
