Could I have some tips on how to get the best results from fake tan? :)

I'm very pale and don't get even a hint of colour in the summer.

I tried sun beds in my late teens and that was a disaster, I burnt and I couldn't sleep for itching (I only tanned on my belly after all of that bother)

I had a fairly expensive spray tan, once, many years ago and that came out horribly patchy.

The few times I've attempted to use fake tan at home has had the same results. Streaky, patchy and just looked like dirt stains.

I've decided to try again and bought two bottles of St Moriz mousse in medium and will give it a go later on.

Could I have some tips from those who use fake tan please? I would so love a bit of colour.

How to get the best results
How to prep beforehand
How to ensure it's even and not streaky

Thanks in advance

I love fake tan, as like you I am pale but also have lots of freckles, so I find fake tan evens and smooths the appearance of my skin.

Top tip is to exfoliate the day before to be honest. Get rid of all the dead skin so you are applying to fresh skin. Once you’ve exfoliated I then recommend moisturising, pay extra attention to your elbows, knees and any areas that you find are dry.
Have you bought an application mitt? If you haven’t you need one.
Then it really is as simple as pump some onto your mitt and apply to your body. St Moriz shows up well on your skin so it’s easy to see where you’ve applied and we’re you’ve missed.
I’d recommend a double sided application mitt so you can use one side to apply tan and the other side to buff the skin if you get any build up.
Now it’s important to not go crazy and apply lots of coats. Start with one, let it dry and then reapply if you want a darker colour.
If you apply to your face do not add more tan just use the leftover on your mitt and gently apply to your face.
Depending if you sweat a lot once you’ve applied and dried I always apply deodorant as sometimes when I’ve sweated I’ve woken up with white arm pits 😂. Try to make sure you don’t wash the colour off your hands. I recommend allowing it to develop overnight but make sure you wear clothes to bed as it can make your sheets brown and St Moriz smells too so it helps not needing to wash your bedding every time you apply it.

Always double check your self in a mirror to see if you’ve missed any bits. I usually miss the back of my arms near my elbows for some reason. My DP is forever rolling his eyes at me for getting him to do my back 😂 he’s also great at pointing out any patches and smoothing it out. So if you have someone to help ask them ahha.

Also if it looks silly just keep saying ‘I won’t be this dark it will wash off on the shower leaving a nice colour’ 😂

Sorry I fear this is long but hopefully it’s helpful Smile

Superdrug do a 10 minute tan. I exfoliate with a salux cloth & hair remove 24hrs before application, wipe off any deodorant, tiny amount of oil free cream on knees, elbows then apply 10 minute tan.

I leave it on half an hour.

Then rinse off in plain water. Pat dry. Because it’s not on overnight the colour hasn’t got time to really grab onto dry areas.

Use the salux cloth daily thereafter so it doesn’t go patchy and use mineral oil free moisturiser.

Thank you ladies these replies are most helpful! I've made a note of all of the above.

So I'm definitely ok to do another layer on top once dried and washed off if I want a darker colour? I've seen some conflicting into online and don't want to end up patchy Grin

In theory 24 hrs later yes but in practice too much dha goes orange.

That’s why some girls go orange and others don’t, they’ve put too much on.

I did a layer last night and this is the result today, I have a hint of colour.

I'm usually as white as a sheet so I didn't expect to go too dark and definitely don't want to be orange! Smile

St Moritz is fab! Most other tans are orange on me (am also v v pale)

Exfoliate and exfoliate and exfoliate... I tend to do it for at least 2 days beforehand, more like 3.

Moisturise a lot after each exfoliation.

On the day you tan, don’t exfoliate and definitely don’t moisturise.

Apply With mitt; I am a disaster without one.

Long even strokes, not too much product, check in mirror.

But really it’s all in the preparation and all in the mitt. Do this and it won’t go wrong (and I am staggeringly cack-handed do if I can do it anyone can!)

Skinny tan gradual tanner in light is ideal for pale skin. Builds up slowly so less likely to streak.
