Nose pores filling with dead skin/crusting every day

My skin has been so good for 18 months or so after having decades of rosacea and acne.
But in the last 3 weeks or so, there are three areas on my nose (each nostril crease and then a patch on the side tip) which were feeling crusty and lumpy. Looking in a close mirror, I can see each pore filled with what looks like white dead skin, almost scaling. I would try to exfoliate with a muslin cloth and something like microfoliant but they won't budge and I eventually have to either remove them with my nail or tweezers. The pores then look much bigger than usual.
I would go to bed and then all the pores have refilled up with the same problem - feeling crusty and lumoy again - it's like groundhog day!
I'm just getting worried that this is acne or rosacea returning.
Anyone know if I should be exfoliating more or moisturising more? At the moment I'm doing both but it's not getting any better. Any ideas?

I get this on my nose too it kind of looks like dry skin. Il use a nose strip and moisturise too but it’s back again the next morning

Maybe try BHAs? I use Paula’s Choice and you can see a visible difference in the first few days of using it link for rosacea advice here

Paula’s Choice BHA is great for clearing pores.

I saw a difference after a week.

It's frustrating isn't it. The thing is I kind of wish I'd just left it all alone as now it's all sore and inflamed and looks worse. Do we treat it with moisturiser or exfoliate it?
I git some Avene Cicalfate as a skin repairing cream and it did help.a little but now I've put salicylic acid on and it's stinging!

I’d leave it alone and use the bha when it’s calmed down.

So do you think it needs exfoliation rather than more moisture?
I usually have an answer for everything skincare but this has thrown me for a loop.
Maybe my actives are too harsh for this hot weather? A313 ointment every other night and ascorbic acid powder every morning. Maybe I should drop them for a week or so and see?

Drop the Ascorbic acid. I found it too harsh with retinol.

I'm no beauty guru, but when skin is sore, inflamed and crusty leave it alone! The most I'd do is a wee smear of natural yougurt when you go to bed to try and cool and calm it.

Just wondering, could it be sun damage or a bcc. Could be worth seeing your gp, depending on age and sun exposure.

Bluebell9 · 14/08/2020 18:38

I'd let your skin have a rest from anything harsh. Once it's calmed, I'd only use acid exfoliation not physical.
Have you looked at Niacinamide? It's good for helping reduce and tighten pores. I use the garden of wisdom one but there are lots of different brands.

I bet it is seborrheic dermatitis:

Don't pick at it or be aggressive. It will worsen it. I would be very gentle and use a little topical cortisone, antibaterial, or antifungal--experiment. I have been using a little salicylic acid mask in the corners of my nose (stolen from my daughter) and it is helping. I hate it. Hope your settles soon.

I think it could be fungal, worth trying a little Daktarin or similar.

EasilyDelighted · 14/08/2020 18:53

Also put your muslins through a very hot wash.

borntobequiet · 14/08/2020 19:20

Use a mild hydrocortisone cream eg Boots Dermacare.
Stop using anything else until it’s cleared up. And then be careful.

I was thinking SD too which is why I got the cicalfate - loads of rave reviews for it.
Right off to face the mirror to see where it's up to - fed up tbh as got used to having good skin after decades of horrendousness.
