Acne scarring fixes?

DP works as a professional sports coach outside for long hours which means every summer he’s sweating all day without being able to shower and his back gets covered in spots.

I had some great remedies for getting rid of the spots when I asked here before but now the spots are gone his back is literally covered in scars. He’s really self-conscious of it, to the point we’re staying in a spa hotel at the moment and he doesn’t want to get a massage.

Is there anything that will make the scars fade if not disappear? Maybe laser? He’s been using bio oil every day but I can’t say it’s done anything. He also has mixed race skin if that makes a difference to what to try.

He needs either an online consultation with dermatica or he can try things like glycolic acid or retinol or vitamin c.

Are they true scars or is it PIH? If it’s that latter, as @Fluffycloudland77 said topicals like glycolic acid of Azelaic acid should help to speed up the cell turnover. It’s also really important that he wears sunscreen to prevent the pigmentation from going darker in the sun.

If they are true scars, I think he would need to go to a specialist clinic for laser or more aggressive resurfacing.

Scars do generally improve with time but I never follow my own advice and the state of my skin at times has a huge impact on my mood. I’ve got a doozy of a scar right in the middle of my chest with remains white even when I’ve been in the sun but over time it flattened and improved and then I just got used to it xx

How can you tell if it’s scarring or PIH? Would a photo of them help? He’s had them for years and is now early 30s but some are older than others as the spots come back every summer.

Dermatica has great reviews so I’ll suggest he has a look at that to start with

PIH is generally not permanent- it’s hyperpigmentation causes by the original spot although it can take a good while to fade, particularly if the area keeps getting exposed to the sun without sunscreen.

Xx
