Another curly girl question

Sorry I know this has probably been done to death but I'm hoping someone can help me. I've tried CG before but not really got on with it, not sure if I did it wrong or it's not for me. I like to swap between curly and straight so this might be the problem, I also like to wash it regularly especially as I am menopausal so get very hot. My hair is fairly thick, just above shoulder length an slightly curly.

So this morning I washed, conditioned and used a leave in conditioner, it was from a trial kit I bought. Wrapped in a towel whilst I had my breakfast and that was it. So it looks OK, but it isn't a defined curl, especially at the back, just looks a bit untidy so not sure what I'm doing wrong. Thought maybe I need to not put it in a towel but then I would end up going to work with stocking wet hair. Sorry for the long post, hope someone van help.

Did you use a gel or a mousse or anything like that, thats the key product for me to hold and define the curls

Imtoooldforallthis · 11/08/2020 18:47

No no mousse, I've used boots curl creme before though, it just seems to end up a crunched curl rather than a curly curl if that makes any sense. Should you be able to get a proper curl in all curly hair or is that not possible.

You want the curls to be crunchy when it’s dry and then you SOTC (scrunch out the crunch) to leave nice soft defined curls. You really need a CG friendly gel or mousse or custard

Imtoooldforallthis · 11/08/2020 19:30

Any recommendations on what product to use?

Maybe try the Umberto Gianni scrunching jelly or eco style gel. Most mousse isn’t CG approved but I think the John Frieda frizz ease mousse is (nothing else is in this range). If you want to spend more then Boucleme products are lovely. The main thing is not to touch your hair while it’s drying as this will produce frizz and only SOTC when it’s bone dry.

I use Cantu Wave Whip curling mousse. It's often on special in superdrug but only about £6.50 full price anyway.
