Currently planning what I need in my hospital bag for the birth of my first baby...has anyone got any recommendations for nice products for my toiletry bag that might make me feel a bit pampered (or as pampered as I can feel!) Anything to just make me feel a bit nicer...

a good handcream and lip balm.
mabybe leave in conditioner for your hair.
a flannel.

I was unlucky that there was no warm water in the communal bathroom. plus it was filthy.
I therefore had my first proper shower at home.

I took really nice hand soap and cream in a scent I loved. Didn’t have time for a great deal else.

I was going to ask about scent, I've heard some people say to use unscented products so that the baby can smell your natural scent, is that a thing??

I took a travel size L'Occitaine lemon verbena shower gel for my first shower after giving birth... It's really zingy and felt like a real treat.
I found hospital air quite drying so enjoyed a really nourishing face moisturiser, lip balm and hand cream. Apart from that, I kept it quite light and easy on the fragrance so it wasn't too overpowering for the baby. Good luck!!

Unscented product is definitely better after birth. Baby wants to smell the real you

I was advised by my midwife to avoid using scented products. I took loads of pampering stuff but most of it stayed in my bag.
I would take a facial mist and also dry shampoo (not a pampering product but helped me feel human) as in my experience post-natal wards are insanely hot and my hair ended up greasy from sweating. A nice shower gel too. If you are planning on breastfeeding Lansinoh nipple balm is a must and makes an amazing lip balm.

Sachet of Dermalogica multi vit recovery mask.

Johnsons washcloths are good for a quick freshen up

Unscented shower gel quite good for first shower.
Mint chewing gum for when baby falls asleep on your and you can't brush teeth.
Lip balm
Make up remover in case you go into labour in mascara and can't get it off after :)
Nice soap or handwash
Alcohol gel that smells nice
Tissues with balm
Nice big towel in dark colour if it will fit. Our hospital towels re like flannels

Neal’s Yard face mist - I used mine loads!

Take a pack of good quality moisturising facial wipes so you can always have a fresh face (hands, back of neck, anywhere else) if you end up stuck in bed.

I was so glad I took skincare stuff in my hospital bag!! After getting God knows how much blood, sweat, tears, birthing pool water and newborn baby gunk on my face it felt so good to take 10 minutes to have a proper wash and look after myself. Really helped me feel human again. I took-

  • Make up Remover (Clinique Take The Day Off)
  • Cleanser (LRP Toleriane)
  • Day Serum (Superdrug Simply Pure)
  • Day Cream (Nivea)
  • Night Serum (Superdrug Simply Pure)
  • Night Cream (M&S Ultimate Sleep Cream)
  • Lip Balm (By Terry Baume de Rose)
  • Facial Mist (Tisserand Lavender Aromatherapy Water)

I did use unscented deodorant and shower gel for the first few months as well.
