Nail Appointment Etiquette

I love having nice nails but as soon as I walk into a nail appointment my confidence goes out of the window, I find it all very intimidating.

I've made an appointment at a new salon and I want to get it right. I've booked in for acrylic overlays on my natural nail, no tips. Booking was through Facebook, there were no options to add in nail art, french etc. just whether you want gel or acrylic extensions or overlays or just polish/gel polish. I added into the notes that I have hard gel to be removed. I can see from her Facebook and Instagram that she does chrome, coloured and glitter acrylic, dip powders, forks etc. The salon has only recently opened and the brands are all very trendy.

I always come away with nice nails but generally a block colour with maybe a glitter accent nail, I'm always worried about asking for something that'll take too long.

Please help me, do you tell the nail tech when you book exactly what you want? If I want ombré acrylic should that be possible in a normal acrylic appointment? What if I want one nail glitter and one chrome and the rest block colour, is that ok? I've seen other women show the nail tech a photo and walk out with nail art, gems and all sorts. What do I need to know?

That should say foils not forks.

I normally just show a photo and let them do their thing. I never used to book through Facebook though. I think it would be best for you to send them a photo of what you want so they can allocate enough time and let you know if it’s possible.

Email her a photo of what you want & ask how much because some nail art products are incredibly expensive to buy in.

Hairthrowaway · 10/08/2020 17:58

Chrome, glitter, foils, gems etc would probably cost extra

TeaOneSugar · 10/08/2020 19:40

So you would all send a photo in advance?

Yes send a photo OP (nail tech here) then they can allocate the right amount of time and confirm price for you.

If you find the salon intimidating, what about looking for someone who has a home salon or something?

Another nail tech here. I always appreciate a photo, that way I know we're on the same page. Also I can manage expectations with regards to colours etc. I always ask what my clients have in mind beforehand, even if they don't have a picture, so I know how much time to allocate. I don't use an online booking system for that reason as I prefer to have a 'conversation' with my clients.

OK, thanks, I'll have to wing this one and then send her a photo ahead of my infill appointment.
