Help!
I've got dark pigmentation on my upper lip of all places! Looks like I've got a mostash brewing !!
What can I use to lighten it?
I use retinol night cream and sometimes day cream.

Dermatica

They will prescribe Hydroquinone and tret

Nothing OTC will remove it .

You need daily sunscreen

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/08/2020 13:24

I was going to say dernatica too. I’ve seen women with hyper pig there before so your not alone.

anonacatchat · 06/08/2020 13:24

Also retinol day cream is total bollocks as retinol isn't photostable = degrades in light

Join Dr Sams Skincare club on Facebook .

Laser is ineffective as as "cosmelan peels"

If you can afford it I'd go see Dr Natalia Spierling Private derm but Dermatica our Skin + me can prescribe for you from photos .

If anyone comes here and offers otc / high street products you're wasting your money and time sadly

Hobnobsandbroomstick · 06/08/2020 13:25

Are you on the pill? Sometimes it can cause skin pigmentation like that.

Thisyearcandoone · 06/08/2020 13:50

Thanks, I've just looked it up. £20 a month doesn't sound to bad. Does it actually work!?

I'm not on pill or any thing.

Of course. Fits through the letter box too.

Flyinggeese · 06/08/2020 14:22

Dermatica is a MLM surely this is an ad?

Flyinggeese · 06/08/2020 14:22

Hobnobsandbroomstick · 06/08/2020 14:36

@Flyinggeese

Dermatica isn't a MLM Confused

breadcakebiscuits · 06/08/2020 15:45

Be sure to thoroughly research dermatologists you see on the internet.

Very few are Consultant Dermatologists in the NHS with the required higher qualifications and ‘flying hours’. Most seem to be fairly junior doctors who didn’t make the cut when it came to specialty training and have re-branded themselves. There is a ‘doctor’ on Harley Street who seems to crop up on Mumsnet all the time but isn’t even registered with the GMC!

andmeee · 06/08/2020 15:51

I've been using the dermatitca Tretinoin/ Hydroquinone since April and it really has made a difference, I still have a long way to go but it has definitely faded the pigmentation on my face. You will need to wear spf 50 every day.

Also it's definitely not an MLM you just order via their website. Confused It's a subscription but it's easy to cancel and you can postpone your monthly prescription if you feel like you don't need more. One bottle tends to last me 6 weeks.

anonacatchat · 08/08/2020 00:51

Dermatica is not MLM lol

Also if you're talking about derms - derm isn't a protected term .

You're probably referring to Dr Sam Bunting - she IS a doctor , she is registered with the GMC she just is not a consultant Derm . She's a bloody good skin doctor though !

To be honest most basic skin issues don't need a consultant Derm . I just love going to the couple I use for various bits

Buggedandconfused · 08/08/2020 00:59

Ooh, reported... jeez. Do your research first Flyinggeese. It’s the Dermatica police lol.

GrumpyHoonMain · 08/08/2020 01:02

Neutrogena SPF 110 alone has helped my undereye pigmentation significantly. I am waiting to start Dermatica but can’t at the moment as I am breastfeeding.

anonacatchat · 08/08/2020 09:16

Yes good sunscreen is always needed 🥰

And a hat . Also heat can trigger pigmentation too depending on the type .

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/08/2020 09:18

I need a hat.

Long term I want UVA filtering film applied to the inside of the windows.

Frankiemintz · 08/08/2020 16:33

Anonacatchat - That’s interesting that heat can cause pigmentation. I wear a SPF and always wear a hat if I’m in the sun. But where my glasses rest on my nose there is a patch of pigmentation. It does seem to get worse in the summer. I wonder what could be a solution for this?

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/08/2020 17:03

@Frankiemintz Can the opticians adjust your glasses so the ear holds them back? Or lighter frames next time.

whereorwhere · 08/08/2020 17:39

I've had laser and it works on small areas - completely disappears. Apparently the dermapen also helps but I haven't tried it so can't say

Immigrantsong · 08/08/2020 18:03

OP what do you actually use at the moment?

At the am you should be using Vitamin C at 10 percent or more, followed by SPF50.

At pm you need the dermatica but alternate it with Niaciamide and azelaic acid from your GP as tretinoin shouldn't be used every day.

It will take time but you should see results.

elephantoverthehill · 08/08/2020 18:09

I don't want to be alarmist but do have dark pigmentation any where else ? And are you in good health generally? It just that my Dsis has Addison's disease and the dark pigmentation was one of the first indicators.

Frankiemintz · 08/08/2020 20:21

Fluffycloud - thanks. I’ve got a high prescription so even with thin lenses they are still heavy. Maybe I need to get a spare pair of glasses for the summer with smaller lenses.

Fluffycloudland77 · 09/08/2020 07:55

Or contact lenses.

Frankiemintz · 09/08/2020 15:40

Yes, wish I could comfortably wear contact lenses but I suffer from very dry eyes. Seriously thinking about laser eye surgery!
