Should I skip 18-24 month clothes???

Hi,

DS will be 2 years old in April. I live abroad (expat) but buy DS clothes from the uk.

I was wondering for this winter if I should just buy 2-3 year clothes rather than 18-24?? I am thinking he will get more wear out of them esp as it is a big hassle to have his clothes sent here. However I do not want the clothes looking baggy and too big to.. DS is in the 50th percentile.

It's a total lottery sizing but took awhile for my 2yo to fit 2-3 stuff and still wearing at 3.5

Depends how quick he grows. T-shirts/shorts you might get away with. Trousers you will probably need right size. Coat will be ok to size up- jumpers too.
One of my DDs wore 18-24 month clothing for over a year. Then 2-3 for a year. Then 3-4 for three months....

@Feetupteashot thank you! hmm may I ask how long your baby wore 18-24 months?

Coat, Sweatshirts and jumpers absolutely as they are fine with sleeves rolled up, worn a bit baggier - I’ve a little girl 2 in May and I’m not buying anything smaller than a 2 now.

Are you in a place that shorts are winter wear? You can get away with incorrectly sized shorts, but trousers are more problematic. Make sure they have adjustable waists!
If you are in a place that needs winter and summer clothes, I'd get winter 18-24, and summer 2-3.
We used to buy every summer, and then top up locally. Good luck!

Dresses and leggings have more flexibility in size than trousers and T-shirt’s unfortunately. My dd has dresses that she has worn for years as long, then normal, then tunic style. Kids often get taller without getting much fatter at this age.

Remember once he’s out of nappies he gets thinner again so the 2-3 clothes last longer anyway. If you can get away with shorts in your winter season then they are more forgiving than trousers. Or just turn the trousers up. Equally short sleeved tops are more forgiving of size than long sleeved, which often have to be turned up at the ends.

Agree with what has been said above. It's really difficult to predict what rate your little one will grow at. Also shop sizes vary so vastly.

But as someone who currently has an 18m ds and a just turned 3yo ds, they are currently very different sizes and very much need the appropriate size clothes.

But there are definitely items of clothing that they could get away with in a bigger size. Leggings, some t-shirts, and probably jackets. Maybe buy some key pieces in the 18-24 that will get a lot of wear and size up in everything else?

Depends where you're buying from. Some brands come up big so 18-24 clothes lasted for quite a while after DS's second birthday. For those brands 2-3 would have swamped him at 18 months. But others come up small so 18-24 were outgrown quickly and in that case 2-3 would be best.
