Getting annoyed at the word worth?

For example I have an Avant moisturiser which I'll start using as soon as my current one is gone but it says it's worth £80-100. Not what the moisturiser says, blurb on packet. I hope it's a nice one but have no other expectations.

No it isn't that's what it retails for.

It's retail not worth, isn't it?

Odd choice of words from their marketing/copywriting team I agree.

It cheapens it in my opinion. Where did you get the moisturiser?

Well it was from a beauty box; but I thought no way it was worth that, only retails at that amount!

But I may start using it and be converted. Hope not as that's far too much Hmm

"worth" means "people will pay this much"

So if they can get people to pay £80, it's worth £80.

If 99% of their sales are offers and work out at about £30, then it's worth £30 and they've found some mugs who are willing to pay over the odds. If 99% of their sales are full-price then it's worth £80 and some of you got a bargain.

Of course, all that really means is that they've found lots of mugs, but still that's the definition of "worth".

It's a bit like the DFS sale.
