I have absolutely no style at all!

Cherrybakewellll · 04/08/2020 09:20

As per the title really. I have zero style and it's really starting to get me down.
Bit of background, I have always been in a bad place with how I think of my body, I was severely overweight as a kid and bullied so I grew up wearing leggings and smocky style tops to cover up. Then in my teens I became a goth and that sort of gave me something to hide behind. Then fast forward to my twenties, I basically went on a diet and lost loads of weight, then it became an obsession and I was underweight. Even during this time it was still smocky tops and leggings.
I have recently had my 3rd baby and literally nothing fits me apart from leggings.
I'm 5ft 10 and a size 12 but because I'm so tall I can never find tops that fit that aren't frumpy.

I've always worked in a male dominated industry right up until a couple of years ago and I grew up with brothers so I was never really around anyone 'girly' to influence me or advise me.

I am trying to lose the baby weight in a healthy manner now, which is slowly but surely. However I have still got lumps on my thighs and bum which are taking longer to shift than I would like.

I did do the Styled by Susie analysis and she said I'm a Sprinf Hourglass shape. I've got blonde/light brown hair, blue eyes and pale skin. Im a 36DD bra. I'm a burn don't tan type.

I was trying to find a photo to show you so I could crop out my face but honestly I can't find a single photo other than my wedding or having just given birth.

So I guess what I'm asking for is any advice on where to start to improve things?
I'm willing to pay out for key pieces and things that will actually last. I guess a 'capsule' wardrobe is what I'm hoping for.

I have a work uniform for when I go back after mat leave so that's fine, I guess it's day to day stuff I need which is practical for the usual daily grind of cooking/cleaning/dog walking etc.

Any advice would be really greatfully recieved.

P. S. You need to accentuate your boobs and waist - you'll look slimmer this way.

managedmis · 07/08/2020 19:01

Do you have a pic in jeans /trousers? We can't see your legs - but if you're 5'10 I reckon you have long legs and so you should be showing them off!

OneMoreForExtra · 07/08/2020 19:16

@Cherrybakewellll I can't take credit for BooborBust - that was a PP - but I'm sure that measurement is much closer to reality! You'll feel 100 x better in the right bra. If you can get to a bravissimo they'll make sure.

Good luck having fun with your style!

SatanicDesk · 07/08/2020 20:21

OP I’m almost exactly the same size as you - 36dd, 12, 5’10 and have also just done the bra thing and to my absolute shock it’s saying 32HH!!! Shock

I’m also off to order!

KittyWindbag · 08/08/2020 02:29

OP you have a killer figure! Tall, slim and curvy with great legs. Please try to look at yourself differently. Years of low self-esteem have warped your self image.

I think you would suit fit and flare dresses that fit your waist and chest and flare out at the hip to emphasize your shape. Slim leg jeans and airy but not too voluminous tops in nice fresh light cottons.

Aim to buy one or two more expensive classic pieces in natural fabrics and good colours. Those dresses look a little cheap and don’t make the most of your figure.

KittyWindbag · 08/08/2020 02:31

I meant to add - if you’re on Instagram I recommend seeking out style bloggers/ celebrities who you resemble in terms of colouring/ figure/ whose style you find interesting or are drawn to. It is such a good way of figuring out what things might suit you and could give you the confidence to try new things.

MySweatyPie · 08/08/2020 02:41

I'd put you in pink, silver or dusty pink cami and charcoal shorts.
White v or square neck cotton shirt with puff sleeves and navy chino shorts.
Brastop.com is cheaper than bravissimo for big boobs.

wishywashywoowoo70 · 08/08/2020 07:11

The black dress looks great. Team with a pair of white converse and that's casual and easy
The other dress isn't great

You mentioned you were a goth. Do you still like that sort of music. I like rock so my look tends to lean that way. Boots jeans etc

Maybe do something funky with your hair so you don't think you look frumpy.

Skinny jeans and a top with non exercise trainers look nice ( I'm a big fan of converse) but think exercise style trainers look awful with normal clothes.

cuppycakey · 08/08/2020 11:10

I really like the first dress and agree you have a great figure OP. The styled by Susie hype is pretty crap. I was on another thread about it on here and was inspired to order a Stitch Fix box which arrived this week and was marvellous.

My figure is very similar to yours I think OP, I am 34GG with narrow shoulders and skinny legs but I have a bit of a belly which you don't appear to suffer from. I felt like I had completely lost my way with clothes but have had lots of good anonymous tips just be reading all these pages.

My box of Stitch Fix clothes is pushing me a bit but I was shocked how much they had listened to my likes and dislikes and got it just right. I kept it all and got the 20% discount plus refund of £10 styling fee if you keep just one item.

DP was made redundant at the start of lockdown and has just got a new job so I am going to order a box for him so he can start his new job looking a bit more trendy!! @lockdownalli can I use the same £15 discount code for him or is it only to be used once? Many thanks for the referral, I would never have used that kind of service and feel much better now.

lockdownalli · 08/08/2020 11:19

@cuppycakey Yes the £15 off referral code can be used multiple times by anyone. However, I think DP would have to set up his own account to be able to use it. Here it is again www.stitchfix.co.uk/invite/ffztmxfkwh?sod=w&som=c

He would have to set up his own account anyway to go through all the questions about his style and needs, colours etc. This must be such an easier process for men than it is for women (like most things!) Good luck to your DP in his new job Flowers

I am glad you got a good box. I love it.

MrsNoah2020 · 08/08/2020 13:55

Like you, OP, I've got a slim chest but biggish boobs. The most flattering tops are V neck or boat neck. Anything too fitted around the neck tends to make me look booby. Shirts are good but with several buttons open at the top, and a vest top underneath (to avoid frightening passers-by with a glimpse of my highly cantilevered 30E bras Wink)

I avoid anything that hangs off the boobs - like many shift dresses - because they make me look pregnant.

People with our shapes always get told to accentuate our waist, but I disagree - by chopping us in half, belts draw attention to the size of the boobs above. A gently defined waist is better.

user1494055864 · 08/08/2020 13:55

That first dress is really nice. 2nd is frumpy, I think huge patterns are frumpy.
I think you are overly critical of what you look like.

Let me know if they fit properly, I'm highly sceptical about mine!

@lockdownalli I have just used that code to try my first box, hope that's ok?

Yes of course! Anyone can use it. I have been so pleased with what I got and I hope you are too. £15 off doesn't hurt and I have another box coming next month which I cannot wait for.

I agree with PP re V neck, Boat neck, scoop necks. Then of course it can't be too much chest area on display or I feel like I should be in a Benny Hill sketch (shows age) I am a 32G at the moment but was a 34H before losing weight recently. It makes dressing so much harder.

Cherrybakewellll · 08/08/2020 15:52

What I don't get is I would imagine Kelly Brook has these issues, she's got a massive chest, but she always manages to look so well put together.

DelphiniumBlue · 08/08/2020 16:14

You've got a super figure, but neither of those dresses is doing you any favours. The orange one is not a great colour or shape on you, and the black is not right on the neckline and sleeves. I think the puffed sleeves and the length of them ending at the bust makes the proportions look wrong, and makes your top part look too big. You need something neater around the shoulders, I think.

MySweatyPie · 08/08/2020 16:17

So copy what she wears! She has a shorter waist than you though..i dont know hoe tall she is but a lot of her looks is h and m, zara lookalikies

troppibambini · 09/08/2020 10:28

Just a little tip about the new bras- they will feel super tight to you because you are going from a 36 back. If you need to try a 34G (sister size) which may feel a little comfier or what I did was use a bra extender until I'd adjusted to how they felt and the bra had softened a bit after a couple of washes.

KizzyKat91 · 09/08/2020 10:54

I’m 5,10, a size 12-14 and hourglass shape with 34E boobs. You’ve got a much bigger bust than me and are much slimmer on your bottom half. I would say you’re more top heavy than hourglass and need to look for clothes that suit a more top heavy shape and show off your lovely slim legs.

Midi dresses look great on me due to my height and I go for wrap styles or ones that pull in at the waist (I wear them casually with converse or supergas) , but if I had your legs I wouldn’t be hiding them!

Try bottoms that will balance out your top half rather than leggings or skinny jeans. Try cropped wide leg culottes, a line skirts or straight leg cropped high waisted mom jeans (River island do a great pair called Blair)- all with tops tucked in.

elainesummers · 09/08/2020 11:38

Where is that black dress from OP? I really like it!

I don't have much advice but I agree with others that you have a great figure.

Pinkmug · 09/08/2020 11:49

OP you have a lovely figure. I agree about a good bra, I just bought one from M&S and it's made such a difference to how I feel.

I think you would suit fit and flare dresses that fit your waist and chest and flare out at the hip to emphasize your shape. Slim leg jeans and airy but not too voluminous tops in nice fresh light cottons.

I have big boobs and shapely legs and totally empathise with feeling frumpy but the above approach is how I have managed to find a style. At the moment, I am mainly in V neck white t shirts and navy chino shorts like a pp has suggested Smile

Katerinakaterinaki · 09/08/2020 12:17

Agree with many PPs - fit and flare/skater style dresses would suit your figure, and wide leg cropped trousers/culottes with a high waist probably would look good. Maybe even a wide cropped leg jumpsuit with short sleeves, that fits nicely at the waist and chest.
I think the sleeveless look isn't as flattering with a big bust. Cap or short sleeves is better suited.
