Hi. Can anyone recommend a great foot file? My heels need some TLC...

Margaret Dabbs
You can purchase direct or have a look at QVC as they often have really good offers

GhostCurry · 02/08/2020 19:34

No, just get the one from Boots - white plastic handle, metal file that looks like a cheese grater. Follow up with Flexitol.

Skyliner001 · 02/08/2020 19:34

Body shop file a foot

ChequerBoard · 02/08/2020 19:45

I second the Margaret Dabbs one, it's a metal one with replaceable file plates. While you're at it, get some of her foot mousse too to exfoliate your feet. I've no idea what's in it but I swear its magic and turns rough feet into silky soft ones.

ChicCroissant · 02/08/2020 19:49

I have one that I bought in Asda, it has four sides to it (metal grater, pumice, brush and file) which is good. Although even the Tesco value foot files work well if I use them often enough!

You don't want a file you want a Newton's chiropody sponge (hint, it's very much not a sponge).

I've tried every product, file, scraper, cream etc and the Newtons chiropody sponge wins hands down. After I've finished I slather on a load of Flexitol heel cream but really any cream will probably do.

The combination fixes cracked bleeding heels pretty much straightaway.

I got one for £1 at wilko. Wooden paddle with pumice one side and sandpaper file in the other. Not used the pumice but the file is brilliant for the price and easy to hold.
Also bought o'keeffe's foot cream. Hate the sloppy texture but it has worked so much better than flexitol for me.

Newton's Chiropody Sponge 99p currently at Fragrance direct. Seem to be sold out most places at the moment though.

I bought a Margaret Dabbs one recently after recommendations on here, and am entirely underwhelmed. Don't think it does that great a job and it's the most unergonomically designed thing I've come across for yonks! Hard metal with sharp-ish edges and not at all shaped for holding.

No longer on £1 offer but £1.50 still great value

ktjb39 · 02/08/2020 20:24

Soap and glory one from boots is excellent.

nitgel · 02/08/2020 20:31

I use footlogix spray and the file that comes with it is good pretty brutal

SaulGoodmanIsTaken · 02/08/2020 20:35

Diamencel foot file whisks it all away but I have to say I bought mine before children took care of the disposable income. Footner socks too, satisfying to watch your new baby feet emerge like a snake shedding skin

DidgeDoolittle · 02/08/2020 20:47

Another vote for Newtons Chiropody sponge. They're brilliant.

SpeckledyHen · 02/08/2020 20:53

Microplane is the only one that I have found that does a perfect job . Tried everything over the years spending a fortune.

ChicCroissant · 02/08/2020 22:09

A link to the one I mentioned would have been a good idea!

The other thing that works for me is if I put cream on my heels during the day, putting cotton socks on and trainers (or similar shoes that are quite warm) as the heat seems to help. Not too much cream or you'll slide around your shoes! Can also use cotton socks in bed overnight to help the cream work.

Fozzleyplum · 02/08/2020 22:11

I have a Diamancel file which I bought many years ago. They are expensive, but very effective and they don't wear out.

quarentini · 02/08/2020 22:58

Newton sponge

ZaraW · 03/08/2020 05:15

I found a Babyliss electric one hidden at the back of my wardrobe hadn't used it for years. It's pretty good.

achillesratty · 03/08/2020 11:40

I have used the Soap and Glory one and binned it, it didn't work for me. I use the Margaret Dabbs one it's brilliant and you get replacement pads for it so it never wears out. I agree the handle isn't brilliant though.
